I'm sick hearing about 9/11. The fanfare, the ''why us'' mentality and the endless conspiracy theories. The UK and various other developed countries had its fair share of terrorist activities, which claimed a comparable amount of lives, certainly at least over an accumulative time period yet there isnt the tyrade of televised or printed sentimentality regarding these. Rightly or wrongly, it is arguable that the USA has had 9/11 coming for a long time in many respects they should just be grateful that it didnt come a lot sooner. How many innocent people have died because of American aggression? Why do these people never get the televised justice they deserve? All imperialist countries attract terrorism, especially the ones that throw their weight around the most. Yes it was awful, yes it was terrible that 3000+ lives were lost. However no amount of documentaries, with ash covered firemen, teary eyed mothers with sad plinky plonk music is going to change that.

Get over it America.
Rant over.

It is interesting to note that about 11,000 people are murdered in the United States every year. So, nearly four times as many Americans are victims of murder at the hands of other Americans every year than the number of Americans killed in 9/11.

Oh Lord, speak not the word. Even the normally good quality press has been hoisting her on us this week.

Anyway 9/11 has obviously been used as a justification for a hell of a lot of stuff over the last six years, in a manner which has really disgusted me I have to say. Obviously psychologically speaking it was shocking as that sort of thing is meant to only happen to other people in other parts of the world. Also because the TV cameras were able to focus on it and show people jumping and the towers falling live on television it had a kind of effect that few other events can equal and people tend to forget that all tragedies are horrific even if they do happen in other parts of the world and the TV cameras aren't right in showing it.

However people find this difficult to grasp when hit with the emotional punch of what happened and the cynicism with which this has been exploited is horrendous.

I find the conspiracy theories in particular to be an absolute bore. Their proponents are often racist in their assumption that "only the US government could have done this", and labelling anti-US forces as "Arab cavemen".

If bin Laden and Al-Qaeda want the US out of their part of the world, then why not utitlize non-violent methods to achieve this end?

Why resort to terrorism?

A number of reasons, many of which are to do with the fact that these groups would not have enough influence (unlike, say, Ghandi.). That and their insane religious convictions probably gave them reason enough to act violently.

That'd be my guess.

America (and its leckies for that matter) has no shortage of blood on its hands when it came to acheiving its political ends.

Fight fire with fire, as they say.
