Often this phrase is passed between Rightists and even Centralists. Unfortunately, they have managed to confuse their own bureaucracy with socialism. That is why I like to counter this phrase with something along these lines:

Rightist: Private business does a better job than the government.
Me: People do a better job than private business and the government.

Unless the Rightist you're talking to is a fascist, they'll be stumped.

The PR battle is probably the one thing keeping us back from realizing our potential freedoms. Socialism and communism are smacked with pictures of Stalin, Mao, and Jong Ill, while the beliefs of ML King and George Orwell are scrubbed out of the history books. Economic books distributed to the school systems are defining communism as "authoritarian socialism." The media is portraying Clinton and other centralists as socialists.

The revolution must first be won by spreading the TRUTH.

When someone asks you if I support public education, I tell them NO. Then when they're about to open their mouths in either the affirmative or negative, believing I am just another hard-right conservative/libertarian, I tell them I'm for truly SOCIALIZED education and explain the difference.

Well, actually, socialized education is public education

Yes, but not in the way we have it now. :)

Your attitude is spot on, and at this moment it seems as though we have to argue every single point that reactionary ideology throws at us (and we do) it is worthwhile to keep in mind that the economic, social, political, and military structures that sustain their nonsense is collapsing. Don’t take my word for it, check it.

You should not bother with right and left, only TRUTH.

Cultural hegemony, and it is explained by Antonio Gramsci.

The fact that Stalin and other bad leaders are shown as the true form of socialism and communism is a myth created by big corporations and believed by the masses.
