What are your thoughts on the black block? I would also like to know what the capitalists here think of them. Do you completely agree with it? Are you completely opposed to it? Are there somethings you like and some things you don't about it? And why. Also please post what you political belief is too.
I am an anarchist. When I was first developing my anarchist beliefs I was completely opposed to it because I thought that it was just giving us bad name. But now I think that it is a really good thing. Although it would be nice if we could somehow get out the message to the general public on why they were doing what they did.
Your thoughts?

Heard of this, never saw the vids before though.
I admire the direct approach of anti-corporatism in the Black Bloc, especially in times where direct action to achieve leftist goals is often difficult to enact. The vandalism of course will only tarnish their image to the general public.
A major problem is that many people are content with corporations running everything, as having those brand names means a lot to many stupid people.
I'm a Marxist-Leninist. I believe anarchy is an ideal far beyond the reach of the current age. There needs to be a vanguard before humanity can fully reconcile. I'm still a little confused regarding the anti-globalization argument. I suppose globalization is different than internationalism?

Good for Anarchists, BAD for PR, good for Anarchists because it empowers, shows solidarity and really raises Confidence and revolutoinary passion, bad for PR, because what do you think your average Joe thinks when he sees a bunch of Black Clad Anarchists hiding their faces and smashing windows.

I have it on video. Some of the interviews with people are shit.
It partly made me love black blocs, and partly made me hate them. Just some of the things were so dumb.
But meh. They shut it down, good on 'em.

But don't we need to get the people to realize the truth about capitalism? Anarchy/communism wouldn't work very well without communists/anarchists. Which is why I think that we need to some how get the message out on why they were doing what they did, although the media will always twist it. Although it was nice to here them report on the police brutality.

As most Americans are neither professionals nor managers and lack college degrees the Average American may be described as being either or both, lower middle and working class.
so no .... "average joes" are not petty bourgeoisie

The "Average Joe" is the common man. Even if they were petty bourgeoisie, I would hope we wouldn't be so dismissive of the majority of society in general.

Thanks everyone. I rarely ever hear the use of the term since I and most of my area here in the U.S. are latinos so such terms are not really used. Thanks for clearing it up everyone.

I loved this film and I fully support the black bloc, best quotes "It doesn't matter whether they're making decisions that I like or hate, it's the fact that they're making decisions for me." The Black Bloc is probably one of the best developments in the anarchist movement, and other leftists should take a hint. Sometimes you have to stop wasting your time debating theory, waiting for conditions to be ripe, etc and just act, "propaganda of the deed." The Black Bloc invokes the insurrectionist spirit of the Paris Commune and the Situationist International. They prove that revolution doesn't require parties, rallies, and all the other orthodox BS and that you can liberate your everyday life right now through one liberating act of defiance. The Black Bloc is what won me over from being a marxist-leninist to being an anarcho-communist, namely their willingness to actually go out and do something independent of any higher command. In fact it would be amazing if a Red Bloc could be organized, in which libertarian marxists and other radical, non-authoritarian, non-reformist, non-stalinist, marxists could particpate in the revolution of everyday life.

There are plenty of non-anarchists and Marxists involved in Black Blocs, the difference being that their activity isn't based around activist socialist parties, which leads them into much more contact with anarchists in daily experience. If you want to participate in black bloc activity, then do so. You don't need to sign up as an anarchist.

Indeed, while the media often ascribes all Black Bloc activities to "anarchists", especially in Europe, you will find a wide variety of folks involved.
These range from various Autonomist Marxists, Left Communists, and variety of other political groups. You even sometimes get authoritarian Marxists involved (no doubt realising that anarchists do in fact have more fun, and wanting to get in on the action.
The thing about such tactics as Black Bloc is to enable people to be anonymous. To protect each other, and to enable folks to do activities that they wouldn't otherwise be able to do.
I fully support Bloc activities when they target capitalist and state targets.
