Greetings all, I'm Derek. I live in NYC. I have a few posts already, as I didn't see the Introduction forum...it's all the way on the bottom. Anyway, here's my introduction post:
I enjoy Reading and writing. I enjoy books on politics and economy, fantasy stories (a bit mature though, like Eragon and Eldest), books on science and animals, science-fiction novels, and many others.
I'm very open minded musically, but my favorite genres are Indie, Emo, Classic Rock, and Pop from the '70s and '80s. I listen to whatever I want really. By Emo I don't mean Fall Out Boy, My Chemical Romance, or any other of those bands on the radio and playing big tours sponsered by Honda and other huge companies, it's a valid and very good genre. Sunny Day Real Estate and Motion City Soundtrack and my favorites in Emo music, Motion City being my very favorite band. Also, I don't really listen to Prog-Rock but I really like Coheed and Cambria, and I'm not one for metal but DragonForce is really, really good.
I'm politically active when I can be, which sadly isn't common because my father stubbornly supports Capitalism though it has victimized and cheated him his whole life. Any demonstrations that are local (which I'm lucky because alot of dem's happen in NYC) and I can get to, I'm there.
As far as political labels, though I do not label them much, I would call myself a Marxist-Leninist-Guevarist. I add Guevarist because it is a strong influence on my beliefs on Revolutionary tactics.
My idols are Che, Castro, Marx, Engels, and Lenin mainly. I don't particularly see Mao as an idol, but I do admire him.
Message me for anything. I hope I can learn alot and make a few friends here, as I already have. :D
