I would like any good and serious music program like Cubase... Is there any place I can get it for free?

Thanks! :)

I use FLstudio and Song Vegas. You can get them at the usual places.

Do you mean a program to get music for free, or to record/edit music for free?

Though the program is free, I think you have to pay to download music on it.

Also, if you're talking about downloading music for free try Limewire, Kazaa, or Aries.

Recording and editing, I'm gonna have to say Audacity would be the best.

I am thinking recording. I want to record my own music, Amon Tobin-ish. I think he use Cubase, among other programs. This is the recording program I want the most, but others would be appreciated as well. Really :)

In the meantime, I shall check out Audacity. :)

Thanks for your help everyone so far! :)

How can I get sound clips to use in Audacity? Is there a major internet library of different noises, or do I have to go to an Indian resturant with a recorder and catch a guy playing the tambura?

Also, how can I extract a particular sound from a song that I already know of?

Audacity's good. You can put on music files and then record your own stuff on them, there's lots of effects (change pitch, speed, and reverse which is fun because you can play anything backwards) and most of all it's free. It records alot of noise without static well, which is another plus.

Good program, all around.

I hate to say it, but audacity sucks. Sure it is free, but the user interface is horrible, the built in effects are horrible, and you are extremely limited as to what you can do.
It is about as good as the built in sound recorder on windows computers.

Honestly, just go download acid, garage band, fruity loops, Ableton Live, vegas or anyother professional program from a torrent site.

edit: NWOG, it seems like what you want is a program like fruity loops. There is a demo of fruity loops 3 on their website. I think the current version is 7, but I could be wrong. I have 6 or 7 and I have to say, it really rocks.

Well, I am limited of my knowledge of programs and such. Audacity is what I have and it satisfies me pretty damn well. Excuse me for giving a suggestion.
