Resistance has called a national student walkout\strike for the 5th of September in Australia in opposition to George Bush and his War's in Iraq and Afghanistan aswell as innaction on Global Warming, Neo-Liberal attacks on workers rights and the APEC meeting in general.

Protest marches have been organised for every Capital city except Darwain, and some smaller cities aswell. Details are as follows:

Brisbane
12 pm Queens Park

Sydney
1pm Belmore Park

Canberra
TBA (http://www.walkout2stopbush.org.au/contact/canberra)

Wollongong
12PM Amphitheatre , Wollongong Mall

Melbourne
1:30pm Flinders St Station

Hobart
Elizabeth St Mall, at 4pm

Adelaide
4.30pm, at the Mall's Balls.

Perth
12pm @ Perth Concert Hall Forecourt

Resistance has been busy postering schools and helping students to organize, however the demon-isation in the media, though to be expected, is frustrating and dis empowering for many of us. Premier of NSW Morris Iemma has been reported to have referred to protesters as 'ferals' and 'idiots'. And decried such 'radical groups... recruiting and using kids for their own political ends', which is clear hypocrisy. Initial responses to the postering done by Resistance, and leafleting and talking up done by my self and other organizers at my own school has proved very positive, but it only took the administration till lunchtime to scrub off the posters and threaten to review security tape footage. No doubt soon threats of suspension will begin and any counter-strategies to deal with this would be much appreciated.

I don't understand the focus on George Bush... i mean yeah... he's a ****, but a 'walkout' just coz he's visiting sydney? I just don't see the sense in that, he's a figurehead... an important one sure, but that's all he is... and then he's gonna leave, why build for something like that? It's got absolutely no value in a weeks time after his left... i dunno, how about a walkout against black deaths in custody or something? There's gotta be more relevant and meaningful shit than 'disliked US president visits sydney for a few days then leaves' to walkout over? Nevertheless, everyone hates GW so this will be a recruitment bonanza for the socialist groups, poor kids.
