I was just thinking, would the same activitys which one may enjoy participating in be available in a socialist nation. For example if a person is a very keen rock climber or Golfer would these kinds of activitys be encouraged?

Also some activitys only available to the rich today, would they be made available to the general public. Private flying in a just a standard Grobb Tutor or Cessana for example are expensive hobbies today and flying and gliding clubs are generaly unavailable to join with out large licence payments. In a socialist state would such activitys be funded by the state, or just stopped?

Of course they'd exist, hell, I'd hope that would be the half the point of it. Socialism should give us a lot more liberty from work, which in turn would give us plenty of time to screw around with what we really enjoy.

Things would change of course, I'd expect quit a bit less golfing, with all that wasted land could be put to better use. Parks, schools, houses, even other sports and the like.

I'd hope for a lot of localized control for these things, and a sort of common participation, for suggestions, and somehow who would like to run, or just start up a movie theater or a golf club would nicely submit an application to the town, economic council, whatever organ it is to run things, and if its not a load of crap, they might give them a chance to see how people want it.
We should though somehow make allowances for those things that aren't so popular, maybe an appeal to a higher level for funds for something less people would find of use at the local level. Alot of towns would simply piss off some things that other people might find fun, a certain towns council could be filled with boring bastards or the like.

Private flying isn't all that expensive now, its well distributed to get the lessons, and it'll really just cover its own costs, the average westerner can manage to pay it if their willing to now, I dont think much will change in hobbies like that. I guess it might be a bit more in britain.
Proportionwise and prices, it'll be able to afford as much.

Really It would just be best to leave it mostly to local democracy, depending on the level it takes place at.

Not so hard to figure out when we get there, Last thing we'd want to do is stop it.

How could socialism abolish recreational activities? No government has ever taken away pleasure these things. Even 1984 had certain things. I wouldnt want to live in a nation where I couldnt do things like sports! I dont remember engels saying "take away their sports"...
