No I agree with Granma Sweater

Technique will force you into strategical retreat
Because I dominate guerrilla warfare in the streets
There ain't no way to picture me without a victory speech
When I reach higher positions
Without the recognition of pissed on competition
Cause I conquered there ambitions
In a systematic form like a religionist tradition
My mission is to take you, lyrically break you
Lyrically assassinate you
Lyrically incinerate your body and recreate you
To destroy the power that mentally incarcerates you
Cause even though I rip it better I could not forsake you
Your my people with the same oppressors so how could I hate you
The revolution of the mind that bring lee generates you
But when you come original people impersonate you, start to hate you
Cause the conflict is building within the ultimate sin
Is to be ashamed of your skin
My rhymes are like Jamaican over proof I make the room spin
Intoxicated flow I bleed vodka and brandy
Don't make me choke you down like Jon-Benet Ramsey
Something demands of me to rip this fucking shit uncannily
God commanded me to be a technological disease
And psychologically do battle with the best emcee's
*Inaudible* these in technique
Cause I'm the capital of revolutionary nation that's infallible
Aztec like the Hannibal
Rip your heart out of your chest and feed it to the cannibal's
Your just a fucking animal but I'm the Neo Sapien
Cause my original civilization was based upon creation
You know theirs no escaping even though your heart is racing
I'll put your best disciple on academic probation
Fuck the litigation, fuck the best rapper nominations
And fuck the president I voted for assassinations
I'm saying fuck the federal bullshit investigations
Fuck the cover up of ghetto radiation extermination
Using my people for experimentation
And if doesn't play hip hop then fuck your radio station

Just because Jeezy is a capitalist does not mean he is a rightist (I said he was a rightist, not a capitalist). Maybe he is a democrat, who knows? His raps are pretty A-political.

And what does not being born in Atlanta have anything to do with it? He was born in Columbia, South Carolina. The "hick" town you speak of is the 6th largest populated city in all of Georgia (9th highest population in USA). He moved to Atlanta almost 10 years ago and all his successful rap has come after the move to Atlanta.

I am not glorifying coke trade, just making a point: "However, there is no doubt that Young Jeezy was involved at least to some degree in the illegal cocaine trade, and he is affiliated somehow with the slightly defunct Black Mafia Family." ---Wikipedia.

It seems you view gangsta rap as anyone who says they have been in a gang or sold drugs or anything associated with that. Ice T (amazing rapper, slightly political, how can you not like him?) is known as one of the starters of gangsta rap and is nothing like young jeezy lyrically or stylistically at all. What do you think about dead prez? They are often classified into the category of gangsta rap.

The media does not have much to say about young jeezy. Sure he is in the main stream, but he does not get that many plays.

Taken from young jeezys Last. Fm's weekly chart:
2nd top track: Go Getta (feat. R Kelly), 300 plays
20th top track: Bottom of the map, 89 plays

and then you look at RHCP (http://www.last.fm/music/Red+Hot+Chili+Peppers?q=rhcp):
2nd top track: Dani California, 8,632 plays
20th top track: Suck my kiss, 3,450

the 20th track by RHCP blows young jeezys top track out of the water in number of plays.

Whos stuff do you think the media would rather try and sell you, Young Jeezy, a couple of hundred plays per week or RHCP with more 10 thousand plays per week?

Honestly, I have never seen any gangster movies other than "road to perdition" with tom hanks, but I can assure you that more than the mafia is just pushing coke.

Democrats are Capitalists. Capitalism is an economic structure, not a political party. He is definitely "Capitalist" in terms of lyrics, which is indicated by this statement:

I agree with this statement, as it is true. Most mainstream rap relates to this, rather than the likes of Public Enemy, Immortal Technique, etc. who are not nearly as mainstream anyway.

These are prominent elements of Gangsta Rap, and are usually viewed by those elements and those elements only (especially by Leftists and people who simply do not listen to Rap).

On the other hand, Ice T is, in my book, the originator of Gangsta Rap and featured acceptal lyrical content as far as drugs, gangs, etc.

On my imaginary third hand, Gangsta Rap has since then evolved. As a matter of fact, I call the first Gangsta Rappers "Old School Rappers" because of what the genre looks like today, not back then. It used to be good, now it really is all about money and diamonds and cars and all other bullshit Capitalist luxuries.

I view today's Gangsta Rap as Capitalist, "Old School Rap" as not directly, or lyrically Capitalist.

Hampton
28th August 2007, 19:02
Old school rap was just as about money and gold as today's music is. Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, Slick Rick, DMC all rapped about money and getting money, they were just 10x more better than today's rappers.

Finally, someone who appreciates the art of emceeing and knows that just because a emcee has some political content that leans towards the left doesn't make him a ill emcee. Doesn't even make him an ill lyricist!

"Coppin more choppas
Cause n***** talk too much, like soap operas"

C'mon, he's got some good lines. Anyways, he's said it himself, he's not a rapper. His album is called "Thug Motivation," his goal is to provide inspiration.

The point of an artist like Young Jeezy is this: other 'hood folks doing the same shit, seeing their friends dying and rotting in jail, can see Young Jeezy being real on an album and doing it big in real life while making a lot of money off white kids who wanna be down with the "realness". It gives a feeling of hope for a legitimate release for their talents that also provides a sense of dignity and self-worth. Jeezy - as an artist, not in his art - is providing an alternative to the beaten path to those who need it.

It's like 50 Cent - emulate his music and you're an idiot, ready to die over some stupid shit. Study his life and proceedings and you'll find a generally respectable businessman, who's more concerned with getting people drinking Vitamin Water than Hennessey or Courvoisier. Jeezy's the same way.

I understand where you are coming from, but in the long run this is not going to liberate those young African Americans who live in the ghetto.

I prefer the Dead Prez message.

From Dead Prez song Hell Yeah

My homie got a 25 automatic added to the camper
Nigga get the phone book look up in the yellow page
Lemme tell you how we fend to get paid
We gonna order pizza and when we see the driver
We gonna stick the 25 up in his face
Lets ride, stepping outside like warriors
Head to the notorious Southside
One weapon to the four of us
Hiding in the corridor until we see the dominos car headlights
White boy in the wrong place at the right time
Soon as the car door open up he mine
We roll up quick and put the pistol to his nose
By the look on his face he probably shitted in his clothes
You know what this is
It's a stick up
Gimme the do' from your pickups
You ran into the wrong niggaz
We running down the block hot with these pizza boxes
So we split up and met back at the apartment

Because this is def going to liberate us young African Americans in the hood. :D

Yeah well they kind of moved away from the more revolutionary ideals they expressed in "Let's Get Free".

Like I said, I have nothing wrong with what Young Jeezy is saying, I just think he sucks, and therefore choose not to listen to his music.

50 Cent is the same.

"The Power Of The Dollar" is a good album, it's the stuff he has released since that just doesn't appeal to me.

Yeah, sorry but Dead Prez aren't really doing much right now. And by right now I mean never. Their subject matter is revolutionary but very rarely do their songs actually promote revolutionary activity beyond stealing from the cash register and giving shitty advice for DMV scams. Oh, and "slap a white boy."

The fact is that the example of a Young Jeezy is at least providing hope for the type of folks whose primary concern is selling that next gram so they can pay rent.

Hey, now that we've done it, we can just talk about it on a record, tell a story, and make millions! We don't even have to be that good! Sounds fine to me, it's been the model of rap music for a while now.

P.S. dead prez have the same attitude towards homosexuals that Immortal Technique and most rappers are constantly getting shit on here for, they just don't express them very often so they can retain that crucial white college audience that pays their bills and attends their shows.

There is a misconception about Dead Prez, the video pretty much explains the content in their song "Hell Yeah". They show(I'd call it satire) how a sizable majority in urban ghettos can try/have tried to get by, out of desperation, and end up locked in prison for merely trying to survive in a world so against them.

Watch for yourself. (http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&ct=res&cd=1&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DlVD EDvob2U4&ei=wXzoRqz7MJ2ugwPrmsSyBg&usg=AFQjCNG2pfdOEEOxI-E_ognn0Spxxm3K8w&sig2=sszWiKKQVbge21cxTpjJnw)

They even get arrested at the end.

Yeah, i've seen the video before, i think it's a great video.

But the song was produced first and the video way later. The song and video is about "banging on the system". The video portrays the threat of being locked up for cheating a system that cheats millions of disenfranchised black men, but not the song.

Alot of music videos are deeper than the actual songs they correspond too..

This thread is TL;DR.

Busdriver is clearly the best rapper of all time.

I agree with the above post.

I heard that Jeezy is releasing a "Thug Motivation 102" which would be great.

jeezy=sounds like jesus. If jesus had a nick name it would be jeezy. Coincidence, I think not.
