i have been studing the Paul Mattick's reform and revolution, downloaded by the marxists internet archive. his works are characterized for their deep and considerable analysis on marxist theory and tradition.

is here anyone that has studied any of his excellent work?
would it be possible Paul Mattick to be chosen by study group, here in this forum? :)

I think that would make the leninists profoundly uncomfortable.

Mattick is a fantastic Marxist who never fell for the sham promises of state capitalism. His 2nd International economic determinism, however, I do not agree with, but this is a problem with many of the original councilists (who, after 1921, believed that the Russian Revolution could only have been capitalist because of Russia's backwardness). Also his economic analyses is heavily predicated on (I believe) Grossman's crisis theory, so to make any sense of his works that deal with economic questions (his critiques of Marcuse, Keynes, etc.) you have to be somewhat well-versed in old Marxist economics.

I would say his analysis of the Spanish "May Days" in Barcelona, May 1937 is his best article and a concise analysis of the shortcomings of both Leninism and the limits of syndicalism.

It's good there are people reading councilist material.
