Coffee 'protects female memory'
Caffeine may help older women ward off mental decline, research suggests.
French researchers compared women aged 65 and older who drank more than three cups of coffee per day with those who drank one cup or less per day.
Those who drank more caffeine showed less decline in memory tests over a four year period.
The study, published in the journal Neurology, raises the possibility that caffeine may even protect against the development of dementia.

Caffeine, exercise may help ward off skin cancer
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Exercise and moderate caffeine consumption together could help ward off sun-induced skin cancer, researchers said on Monday,...Both caffeine and exercise alone increased by roughly 100 percent the mice's ability to kill off precancerous cells that could lead to skin cancer compared to the mice that did neither. But the mice that did both showed a nearly 400 percent increase in this ability, the researchers found.

It's a good thing I already drink coffee (than again, in Puerto Rico and in Miami that is the norm; at least when compared with tea)......
but doesn't tea also have health benefits?

Yeah. It's been known to reduce chances of various cancers, reduce stress, (possibly) slow down the effects of HIV, and help your immune system. (1 (http://chinesefood.about.com/library/weekly/aa011400a.htm)
2 (http://www.2basnob.com/health-benefits-of-tea.html), 3 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Health_benefits_of_tea)).
This is all good news for someone like me, who drinks approximately 12 cups of coffee every day.
Maybe this new evidence will restart the debate on Tea vs. Coffee?

Coffee gets cleared of blood pressure risk (http://www.news.harvard.edu/gazette/2005/11.10/06-coffee.html)
From the article:
Relax ladies and, possibly, gentlemen. Have that second cup of coffee. The largest study to date concludes that the caffeine won't raise your risk of high blood pressure.
However, too much soda pop, sugared or diet, might.
Harvard researchers set out to test the idea that a lot of coffee isn't good for your circulation. They followed 155,000 female nurses for 12 years, questioning them regularly about their caffeine-drinking habits and their blood pressure. No connection was found between their coffee intake and a risky rise in blood pressure.
In fact, results went the other way. Women who drank the most coffee seemed to develop some protection against the problem. The investigators continue to look into this possibility.
However, tea increased the likelyhood of hypertension (high blood pressure) in younger women
Tea drinking produced mixed results. That beverage increased hypertension risk in younger but not older women.
Can men also enjoy their daily coffee rituals without fear of upping their risk of heart disease?
"We currently do not know whether these findings also pertain to men," Winkelmayer answers. "The only long-term evidence comes from a recent study of about a thousand men, which found no suggestive association between caffeine intake and an increased risk of hypertension. We are currently investigating this issue. It's a work in progress."
Meanwhile, without any good evidence that they would react differently, men probably shouldn't worry about it.

Coffee 'boosts female sex drive'
Coffee could help boost a woman's sex drive, a US study says.
Scientists from Southwestern University found caffeine increased the female libido in experiments on rats.
The Pharmacology, Biochemistry and Behaviour journal study said the effect was caused by it stimulating the part of the brain regulating arousal.

There are different "studies" saying different things almost everyday. Folgers probably had a hand in at least some of these..
It's hard for the average worker to tell which studies (that contradict each other) are right when the funding for science comes from all different sections of the capitalist ruling class.

There are different "studies" saying different things almost everyday.
That's true to a certain extent, certainly we have to be skepticle about any new news that seems counterintuitive on the face or that seems to serve a particular capitalist agenda.
But when studies keep saying the same thing year after year, study after study, we can be reasonbly confident in believing them.
After all, no study has contradicted the link between tobacco and cancer in a long time and that's certainly not because the bourgeoisie stopped making money off of cigarettes.
Similarly despite the bourgeois state's almost obsessive interest in keeping drug use down, not a single reputable study has come out indicating that, say, LSD poses any kind of serious health risk. By the same token, although a couple papers come out each year claiming that marijuana is "dangerous", the vast majority of research has consistantly contended the result.
The conclusion, therefore, is that while contemporary science is undboubtably tainted by the socioeconomic system in which we operate, it's still able, a good deal of the time at least, to give us honest results.
And it sure as fuck beats the alternatives...

There is no compelling evidence that coffee stunts growth. (1 (http://www.signonsandiego.com/uniontrib/20051101/news_lz1c01fact.html), 2 (http://ask.yahoo.com/20030519.html), 3 (http://www.teenhealthfx.com/answers/Sports-46.htm))
San Diego Union-Times
Another study tracked 81 adolescents for six years and found that those who had the highest daily caffeine intake had no difference in bone gain or bone density at the end of the study than those with the lowest.
While coffee can interfere with sleep habits, there has been no link between coffee and stunted growth.

No! Coffee is the Bean of the Gods! All Good Communists Love Coffee! You will drink your Coffee today, and like it, or Face Severe Penalties!
(Well, they say too much of it can seriously mess with your digestion. But that's probably just Imperialist Propaganda designed to deny Coffee to the Resistance. Do not listen.)

Coffee is my Nirvana. I drink about 2-3 cups a day usually. I make it strong, and I drink it black, no milk or sugar! If I wanted warm milk and sugar, I'd make myself warm milk and sugar. But I want Coffee! In most of Latino America, children drink coffee from little. Its a norm, like drinking wine in say France.

Wonderful.
But don't forget that it's suspected of having many health defects, which don't contradict the benefits outlined;
"The possible harmful effects of coffee, including anxiety, asthma, cancer, headaches, heart disease, infertility, PMS, sleep disturbance and weight loss. If you drink coffee, you should read this" - Americas Favourite Drug (http://www.akuk.com/addtocart.php?item=1169)
But I drink coffee several times a day, It boosts my mood and makes me feel better about everything, I also find that if I go without, I get remarkably sluggish, grumpy and suffer from headaches.

Those are alot of things I had no idea about. Coffee is my beacon in the darkness of tired mornings and waking up for school, or in the summer work...
But Coffee, if you don't have it black, has some extra fats and such that may help you pack on pounds, especially since most people who drink Coffee have multiple cups a day.
I drink Coffee first thing in the morning, then tea late at night when I get home... :) It's the bestest.

True, I gained a shitload of weight because I used to drink 4 to 5 cups of coffee a day, and load it up with multiple sugar packets and creamers. I realized the error of my ways, and now only drink a couple cups a week. Still, nothing's better on a cold winter morning than a steaming cup of coffee - the way it soothes your entire body and cures all ills.

Also, here's some info I just dug up.
First of all, in Europe, people who drink Coffee were often associated with rebellious political activity.
Next, when you drink Coffee your performance in work increases. When you drink Coffee your IQ increases, at least temporarily (I'm not quite sure). But as a side effect you can get a bad case of short-term memory.
Coffee can prevent constipation! :D But it may cause loose bowel movements in turn.
Coffee, though it prevents constipation in most, can cause dehydration in some individuals, and, as a result, lead to constipation.
Excess Coffee use can make you irritable and full of anxiety, and can give you bad insomnia. Strangely, it may also cause you to sleep more soundly. This occurs in almost all caffienated beverages, but Coffee has a high content of this and most of the world's caffiene is consumed in Coffee, so this effect is usually attributed only to Coffee.

A February 2003 Danish study of 18,478 women linked heavy coffee consumption during pregnancy to significantly increased risk of stillbirths (but no significantly increased risk of infant death in the first year). "The results seem to indicate a threshold effect around four to seven cups per day," the study reported. Those who drank eight or more cups a day (64 U.S. fl oz or 1.89 L) were at 220% increased risk compared with nondrinkers. This study has not yet been repeated, but has caused some doctors to caution against excessive coffee consumption during pregnancy.
There are also gender-specific effects: in some PMS sufferers it increases the symptoms; it can reduce fertility in women; it may increase the risk of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women; and there may be risks to a fetus if a pregnant woman drinks 8 or more cups a day (48 U.S. fl oz or 1.4 L or more).
Decaffeinated coffee is occasionally regarded as a potential health risk to pregnant women, due to the high incidence of chemical solvents used to extract the caffeine. These concerns have almost no basis, however, as the solvents in question evaporate at 80–90 °C, and coffee beans are decaffeinated before roasting, which occurs at approximately 200 °C. As such, these chemicals, namely trichloroethane and methylene chloride, are present in trace amounts at most, and neither pose a significant threat to unborn children. Women still worried about chemical solvents in decaffeinated coffee should opt for beans which use the Swiss water process, where no chemicals other than water are used.
And finally, it can stain your teeth.
It's a two way street, really. It can be good and it can be bad. But most of these problems are when you drink too much, so keep being the obsessive Coffee addicts you are.

I personally have always preferred a drink at my local coffee shop, the Red Eye, which consists of 12 ounces of black coffee with 4 shots of espresso, I only add a little cream to it and no sugar.
Anyways, with this topic, it should be noted that when they are referring to coffee being healthy, the studies are done with black coffee. They test it plain, because once sugar and cream are added, many of the benefits are outweighed by the negative aspects. The worse thing, I think, is when people consider lattes and the like coffee, because those coffee drinks consider more milk, cream, syrups, and sugar than coffee. I think that indeed a cup or two of black coffee a day definitely does the body good, just stay away from the over-sweetened "coffee drinks."

I am not sure how valid these things are, given that there are contradictory study results and the fact that Tragic Clown's citations tend to say that coffee may reduce X, may reduce Y, etc.
I personally think that coffee has a horrid taste to it anyway. I have not tried wide varieties or those odd concoctions of coffee, but I have yet to try a cup of coffee that I can even come close to enjoying. Drinking just one cup of it is a difficult task for me.
