It seems that people like to blame the workers just as much as their bosses for their own misery and exploitation.

"they shouldn't work there!"
"its their fault for not leaving"
"It's at least work and food"
"It could be worst than not working at all"

FUCK THAT!

::QUESTION::

where are the rest of the workers, working men of all countries unite? Why aren't we ending this? who should step up. obviously the workers should. but what's stopping them? where is the international support???

I'll be honest about many things and this will be one of them.

We have the most beautiful and most humane idealogy there is. We are the way to freeing the world of the evils of capitalism. But the radical left as a whole (in general of course) are not as good when it comes to the "Game" of politics. Remember, politics is a game, and if you play the game right, no matter how good or evil, right or wrong you are, you will get what you want.

We in the radical left need to, as we say in sports, "better our game".

I believe we must better our communication to the working people of the world. We must BREAK old ways of thinking even if it's the smallest thing. We must challenge people anytime they try to spread beliefs which are not progressive and only repress people. We must get our message out there. Remember, not all the workers of the world (who in capitalism where denied a good education for various reasons) will understand everything in the same terms we may discuss it in.

We must "up our game" because the capitalists always "up their game".

Long live the radical left!!!!

It seems that people like to blame the workers just as much as their bosses for their own misery and exploitation.

Typical!

People are brainwashed (especially in the Mideast the brainwashing game is at its best) to believe that immigrant workers are the problem in order to distract other workers from grasping the main cause of their misery: capitalists.

One special thing about that rusty tin-can Mideastern mentality is that citizens of any given country (be it the UAE) believe that they are superior even amongst themselves and that is something mainly inherited from the old tribal system.

Citizens will refuse to work as construction workers, and would but still would like to see these immigrants out of "their" country as if those immigrants were living in their fancy mansions, being paid a salary with four or five zeros after any given number (and of course it gets better when you are a "real" citizen) driving 08 cars, having 6 cell phones, and so forth..

That's not just the case in Dubai, it is everywhere.

There will be a documentary done by Transnational Production on the same issue

"where are the rest of the workers, working men of all countries unite?"

Uneducated (not in the literal sense), uninformed, unorganized. And the ideal place for this is when thousands of workers are performing the same job and being taken advanage of. It takes decades to overcome this.

Remember the start of unionism in this country when thousands of women and children were working in the rag trade in cold water basements with broken glass in NYC for far too long.

I didn't read the Times article, but consider the cultural and legal differences, and consequences. The Friday hangings in Dubai center. I wouldn't hold my breath for Saudi.

I remember nearly 20 yrs. ago, because of immigration law or legal issues, migrant workers would transfer by air in Athens. They would zig zag or backtrack. They go over for a 4 month stint or so with little more than the clothes on their backs, and come home with some cash.

where are the rest of the workers, working men of all countries unite?

living and struggling outside workers organizations and unites.

tell me how many organisations or unites for immigrant workers are there in the world? not many. few.

and of course there are no special departments which help people from one country to legally work in another - in case if a worker doesn't have enough money even to travel to enother country. that's the problem - nobody will help the poor to earn their money in their own country - so they try to find a job in another.

nobody will help them.

just because we live in a capitalistic world - with it's single rule:
the rich survive.

Mariam, it was Riyadh to be exact. Sorry. I'm sure typical in many places. Fridays. Cultural.

Cairo was another air transfer city, besides Athens. Probably more.
