My friend, who is grasping for any flaw in Marxist theory that he can find, is saying that since disabled people will be equally distributed goods, that if word got out about faking disability (Such as breaking your legs intentionally or something like that), then society would collapse.

I answered that they would be arrested or tried for undermining society but he's all "oh noes police state".

Please can someone thoroughly debunk this bullshit as I am trying to recruit him.

The chance people will start breaking their own legs just to not work is LOW. If people in masses do that in communism, then that society collpases. People need to work.

Um, if they actually break their legs then they aren't really faking it.

Any system would collapse if everyone were disabled in some way.

But what's wrong with ostracizing or with-holding resources from someone that is purposely trying to scam people? Don't people do that now?

You can do that today in most countries that have health benefits for the disabled or by people who are insured. Most people don't do that because, quite simply, its stupid as hell to self-injure just to avoid work.

The reality is that work is valorized by most people to a pretty big degree. Most people want to do something with their life, as evidenced by hobbies or side-jobs or the fact that many people are workaholics. I don't think his characterization of human nature is accurate and would probably be even less so in a society where we all had to come together to build society and thus had a bigger interest in working and organization than we do today.

I think if people were going around breaking their own legs then the best place for them would be the asylum.

I don't see why you should even bother with such a ridiculous arguement but I suppose if he persists then ask him to present an example in which large numbers of people have willingly injured themselves in order to receive compensation in a work environment. If such a phenomenon were to occur, it would indicate something wrong with human behavior rather than a societal paradigm.

Even in countries that offer benefits to the handicapped, there are very few cases (if any at all) where ppl deliberatly permanently injure themselves to live on benefits. So if it happens, it will be a very very tiny minority who would try this to avoid work.

Atleast it's the complete opposite of what cappies like to claim that ppl are inherently greedy.

If it's not already ruined their system, then it won't ruin ours.
