Anyone here into cyberpunk literature? I thought Neuromancer was an awesome book. Also, although cyberpunk isn't overtly political, the setting usually is a high-tech but dysphoric capitalist society.

As much as I'd like to see communism achieved, the nerd in me kind of wants to experience life as a replicant or cyborg under the domination of EEEVIL biotechnology corporations.

Hmm... I like Poppy Z. Brite, who's influenced by cyberpunk... but I haven't read anything by her in ages. Any good recommendations?

Wait until you grow up and get a job and you dream/nightmare will be fullfilled.

I like Neal Stephenson's books.

Anyone interested in Steampunk?

Well I'd reccomend William Gibson, Phillip K. Dick's "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?"...
... movies like Blade Runner, Akira and Aliens would fall into the genre.

I have a job, but what I meant was that having a meaningless existence under capitalism would be a lot less of a pain in the ass if we had ocular implants and robotic arms and clone ninja assassins...
and layers of grit covering everything, of course.

I never read a book in this genre but the anime series "Cowboy Beebop" was very cyber punk indeed.

Oh! Forgot Cowboy Bebop. Each episode is truly a work of art in itself.
Pierrot Le Fou and Mushroom Hunting are especially badass.
