The media is supposively saying that China is still a communist country, even though the gap between rich and poor is huge there, there blatant imperialism etc. How the fuck can China say they are still communist in anyway?

My response would be that they are simply lying. The US has been locking up people without charges, but the government and it's supporters would still say we're a Jeffersonian democracy.

The media always call any country, that had a "communist revolution", a communist nation. That would be Cuba, China, North Korea, Vietnam and Laos. Venezuela has also been accused of "being communist".

But, none of them are. Communism can not co-exist with a state.

If only they would actually LISTEN to this argument.

It's sad to see how many 'free citizens' are actually so brainwashed they don't seem to understand what they're saying. Asking a few people recently what they thought of communism was quite amusing actually. Got some odd answers like " hitler was a communist " " One dictator decides who gets what money and assigns himself and the elite the most money " and a bunch of other bullshit they had mot certainly been told as a form of propoganda yet they continue to listen to and believe the bullshit being fed to them.

Mass media is owned by the ruling class, it serves their purpose to call China a communist state. By distorting and misinforming the masses of what communism is, the meaning of communism simply turns into an authoritarian state and is "evil". CNN routinely calls Chavez dictator, hence venezuela is "evil". Soon ppl will think national socialism (nazism) equals communism.

I think they're already doing that. Oh well, I guess there are a few history books left to rewrite...

Of course China is not socialist. Calling it that has a few advantages for the powers-that-be however:
1. It further distorts what the definition of 'socialism' is in the public's mind
2. It creates hostility against China on the part of the US public, which can often further the goals of the American bourgeoisie
3. It keeps people ignorant of what actually is going on in China, which benefits those who want to exploit ignorance for their own purposes
Etc.

here you go. (http://rexcurry.net/socialists.jpg)

China is not communist, but it's leaders all fit into the communist party. China is even imperialist. China never has been communist or even really socialist (more transitional like in the Soviet-Union).

You can compare China to Iran if you like. A solid, but weak, regime with a huge bureaucracy that almost totally controls economy and politics.
There are some differences like f.i. the fact that Iran has (to look it through the eyes of Bush) democratic elections.

The Chinese bureaucracy fears class struggle and tries to keep the masses away from alternative socialist influences (therefor some sites are banned in China and some are not, maybe the attack on the MIA was another attempt).

Sounds a lot like Capitalism. :D

I have a feeling that some members of the Chinese Communist Party actually own factories. Anyways, the people in China supposedly aren't encouraged to even talk about communism anymore, according to a friend who went there.

I remember an news article. Wasn't there once a son of a CP member who owned and abused workers like slaves?

The corporate media attacks China on a daily basis, and it usually makes headline news. Whether it be human rights abuses, Tibet, corruption, sweat shops, dog eating, meat buns stuffed with cardboard etc. etc.... Now with all this negative press that China gets, why wouldn't the ruling class use their best tool (the media) and claim China as communist?

Labeling single party states like the PRC communist is another example of the misrepresentation of communism.

How the fuck can China say they are still communist in anyway?
The CCP has never made that claim. At the very most, they've claimed the PRC to be a socialist state.

You may want to look at some of the previous threads we've had about the PRC in here and in Politics.

Look at this article (http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/china/2007-08/09/content_6019716.htm) by China Daily, a CPC production. Look at the headline! Red capitalists keep socialism alive.

Although Wei has been running her businesses for more than a decade, she is still reluctant to be called a "private owner". She says it makes her feel as if she oppresses workers.

I guess they're still in denial, though.
