No, Dream Theater sucks. They are an utterly overrated, kitschy, unintentionally self-parodic fourth-rate prog metal band with an obnoxious singer, and a crappy concept album with a truly crappy concept worshipped by their pseudo-intellectual fans, and I haven't even mentioned the truly souless "virtuoso" guitarrist and the overrated boring drummer. Their suite "A Change Of Seasons" was not bad, though.

The Mars Volta was slightly better I guess, but their singer also sucks and some tracks were truly lame.

I prefer "shallow commercial pop crap" like ABBA or Duran Duran over this self-parodic progheads.

Off the top of my head:

Pink Floyd - Animals

Secret Chiefs 3 - Book of Horizons

Victor Jara - La Poblacion

Nektar - Remember the Future

Quilapayun/Luis Advis - Cantata Santa Maria de Iquique

and all of Opeth's albums, if they can be considered "concept" albums.
