umm... yeah...

It seemed a cool concept until, I actually found it quite right wing.

Frankly the anti-reparations crowd couldn't have found a better way to satirize the claims on those 40 acres and the mule.

The whole thing reinforces the insidious idea that the reparations issue is about (i) charity by whites that (ii) goes to undeserving individual blacks in the form of a blank check.

Pan-handling is associated with free-loading. Which is NOT what reparations is about.

A little reflection suggest this action abets the worst arguments of the right on this issue.

This video could also abet associations between reparations, and the Nation of Islam, whom stands on street corners soliciting donations and handing out newspapers. They are currently attempting to hijack the reparations issue, and mislead people into donating to that nutbag organization by saying that their donation goes toward action regarding reparations.

How is any of that the fault of people collecting reparations?

What's your point? That this is wrong because some right-wingers who don't even have respect for people of color could misconstrue this as free-loading?

You mean the reparations activists or Ms. Ayo?

If the former, that's precisely my point. Ms. Ayo's antics create an unnecessarily (and possibly sinister) bad impression for those claiming they deserve reparations.

If the latter, that is, if you mean that people's prejudices are not Ms. Ayo's problem, then Ms. Ayo is kidding herself. Moreover, the idea that Ms. Ayo shouldn't be concerned about people's prejudices does not square with Ms. Ayo's other commendable projects like "rent-a-negro.com"

Hilarious. She gives them receipts!

I knew this had to be in Portland.
