I was wondering how is the current situation in Puerto Rico?
Are the majority pro-independent or statehood?
Are there still a good number of Socialists besides the Bourgeois PSP?
Thanks.

Actually...according to the polls....

Most people seem to support the status quo, while the 2nd majority support statehood. The independentista group is usually a minority.

However, there are certain factors why and none of it has to do with "loving the status quo".

IMO, it seems the reason they choose status quo is fear of change. They do not want to loss "federal benefits" if the seperate and they don't want to lose culture if they unite (however, some consider that they will not lose any culture).

There are possibly many other factors....and I might not know all of them.

I don't think the PSP (you mean partido socialista puertorriquena?) exist...

However the MST does.

That summarizes very well the situation. Athough its not all the work of the federal government. the local state government created and continues to perpetuate this dependence the most, at least this is what is normally believed in.

Deep down, many would like independence

However, while I think its true, there is a big amount of pro-statehood people that should be accounted; they believe that the benefits they already have as a commonwealth would multiply as a state. How much these "benefits" are really worth is a mistery. I doubt the US has any interest in making PR into a state and historically they showed littled interest in making it into a state.
