I know he considers himself a socialist in spite of his opposition to Chavez. Apparently Venezuelan communists have despised this man for decades...Is there anywhere where I can get a more detailed descriptive of this guy and why he's such a fucker than what is currently available on Wikipedia?

Uhh. This guy is disgusting. Back in the old days, his party "MAS" (Movimiento Al Socialismo) Movement towards Socialism, was the third most powerful party after AD and COPEI. Petkoff is nothing of a socialist despite his ex-guerrilla days. He was in fact an important politician under most of the old presidents, and his son was one of six (out of 3500) people paid what they were owed (and for him a little extra) when the national airline VIASA closed down after it's privatization. My parents worked there and have still not been recompensed a combined total of 30 years of work, very much due to theft and corruption by Petkoff as a Minister and his family. In fact he was the 2006 presidential candidate before Manuel Rosales.
