We will not allow people to separate us from the United States of America in dealing with the common challenges that we face around the world. I will continue to work, as Tony Blair did, very closely with the American administration.

Gordon Brown
We should acknowledge the debt the world owes to the US for its leadership in this fight against international terrorism.

It will be a cooler relationship with Brown, more formal, more businesslike. There will be a bit more quid pro quo: if Bush expects his backside to be kissed by Brown, he'll have to pay (and up front, since the US ususally reneges on its promises and commitments).

British foreign policy is rarely affected by changes in government personnel. It exists beyond formal democratic control.

British capital depends upon its position in the world financial markets and this is guaranteed by American patronage.
