While I was cleaning the streets doing community service the guy I was partner up with and I were talking about how homeless people recycle a great amount of bottles and cans.

"how much do you think they get for recycling?"- I asked
"Probably not enough if they still have to live on the street!' he told me.

Then I told him, "hey if we lived under a different system, and like health care and college didn't cost us any money. or like your car's license plate and registration wouldn't cost any money, but instead you had to do community service in order to get those things. would you do it?"

he said. "you mean instead of paying 100 dollars for a doctor's visit work 100 hours of community service or something? hell no dude! I rather work and make those 100 bucks in a days work!"

then i told him... "No no! not like that. for example. as soon as you go into high school, grade 9th to 12th. you are required in that 4 year period to do 200 hours community service. other wise you can't enroll in college and you can't receive your books and other type of social programs."

or "when you ready to go get your car register and your license plates.that cost about 300 dollars. instead you had to redeem like 60 hours of community service, etc. etc."

do you guys think that would work well under socialism? reducing fines and other money that we ask to pay off. instead do community service and complete certain hours a year to receive our essential needs. school, health care and others???

There's a system like that already called, I think, Time Bank. You do services for some people, who give you a certain amount of time dollars in exchange. You can use the time dollars to pay others to perform services for you or you can exchange them at a time dollar bank for real currency (dollar, pound, mark, etc.).
