Okay, I expect some attacks on me and this just because John Zerzan is in this, but primitivism isnt really the point of this film I do not think (afterall, at the end there appears to be a little joke about primitivism).

Anyway, any opinions on this? I think its quite good, critical of alot of things, and comparing consumerism and then rationing of Cuba etc etc with that kind of situationist/crimethinc-esque play with visuals etc.

I dont really think any specific view is actually being put forward in this film either as it seems to criticise everything it mentions, but there is perhaps the underlying call for insurrectionary methodology in revolution.

I love this movie! I've had it posted in the google film resource sticky, now to be found in events and propaganda, for a long time now. You know your favorite part is when they have that sweaty, pig looking fool CEO of Microsoft jumping around, hooting, and acting like a complete ass.

I don't see it being very critical of Cuba though. When they interview the one girl's expirences abroad, I think its meant to portray all the pigging out she did in a negative way. And there's the sweet, little, old lady who's talking about how everybody has, at least, their basic needs covered.

As for Zerzan, he's dead on when he says that the usual, polite "oh, I have my sign" feel good protest doesn't achieve jack shit. I never understood why this board has such an aversion to "primitivism" frankly.

It's a really great documentary/music video. And I'm glad other people enjoy it as much as I do.

Dont you remember the bit where they have Castro say 'I... Love... This... Company... YEAH!'

I think its more a comparison of both, and that both models are fucked, and that another way is more desirable.

They seem to quite strongly emphasise the scarcity of Cuba:

Beans... rice... Beans and rice... beans... rice... beans and rice

And then how that girl didnt want to eat beans while in the UK or whatever.

Insurrectionary anarchism :)

Thats the reason i expected t oget attacked here. Simply more mentioning Zerzan's name. But yeah, just read the many relavant topics in Science and Environment etc to see the predujice - to environmentalism that is (environmentalism = primitivism  )

And I'm glad other people enjoy it as much as I do.

Seeing you say this brings a smile to my face too. Thanks.

I saw this movie and John Zerzan when he was touring with the movie and showing it on campuses. Our group stayed afterwards and talked with him for maybe half an hour. Then he gave me a free VHS copy.

Beat that.
