I think it's probably clear to most people on these boards that bourgeois democracies only respond well to the ruling capitalist class and only do things for the majority when they are forced concessions in the class war. Having said this, what methods do people have in influencing bourgeois government actions? I'm not looking for "revolution" because obviously that would introduce a true democracy. I'm talking about effective ways that politically conscious people can force concessions from the government today.
One obvious one I think is the general strike. Are there others that have been effective in the past or that you think could be effective?
Personally, I would argue for a general workplace occupation rather than a general strike. If you're going to have everyone engaging in civil disobedience anyway, it would be much better if it were sustainable. Everyone simply shows up for work, as normal, but instead of taking the customers' money and giving it to upper management, everyone involved in the disobedience takes the money and divides it among themselves democratically.
The economy isn't disrupted. You keep customers happy because they continue to be served. The only ones who are hurt are the upper management who no longer get their high salaries.
A general strike relies on trying to get upper management to agree to your terms. You don't have to worry about that with workplace occupations. Even if they don't agree to your terms, workers can go on indefinitely without their cooperation.
