Sorry if this is not relevant at all to the site, I just have an opinion.

Hey to all you people in Ireland- you can't have missed the coverage of this fascinating case. Tomorrow we'll find out if he is innocent or guilty. Today, I was actually at the back of the court standing because there was that many people being nosy like I was, though the court was really small. It was weird seing O'Reilly stting there with his nose stuck up in the air. I just want to know of your opinions of the case and himself. I have no doubt he is guilty, yet the prosecution's evidence is entirely circumstantial so unfortuantely he could be 'proved innocent.' In fact because there was such a lack of evidence in this case it was almost about to be thrown out of court nearly two weeks ago- not good at all for the prosecution.

The defence are taking advantage of what they call 'lurid media headlines' etc. I don't see this at all, yes there has had widespread coverage but its not as if the papers are saying 'Joe O'Reilly is guilty' or anything explicit like that. Perhaps having those text messages printed in the papers (from him to Nikki Pelly his mistress) serves him right for having an affair

Also I think that O'Reilly has an advantage of living in a leafy area, he is middle-class and presents himself very well. If he was working-class he would have been tagged as a 'thug' and maybe more of an intent to kill his wife, who knows? Let's hope justice can be done even though I have no faith in the very elitist and bias nature of the judicial system.

This recent blog piece (Justice has been done (http://ceadaoin.blogspot.com/2007/07/justice-has-been-done.html)) mentions the outcome of the trial; O'Reilly was found guilty. It also has a link to another piece with more background on this case and other cases of domestic abuse crimes.
