Nablus - Ma'an - The Abu Ali Mustafa Brigades, the armed wing of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), refused on Monday to hand over their arms to the Palestinian Authority.

In a statement received by Ma'an, the brigades said, "The Palestinian resistance has been subjected to a series of conspiracies aimed at frustrating it and weakening its fighters' will; yet despite that, the resistance has continued more fiercely as the Palestinian public considers it the only choice to end the occupation."

The brigades refuted the news reports which talked about their militants having handed over their arms to the Palestinian security services. They asserted that not a single bullet had been surrendered.

The brigades also rejected the term "amnesty," depicting it as a desperate attempt to break the Palestinian unity, specifically regarding armed resistance to the Israeli occupation of Palestinian land.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is wonderful news. The Zionists are offering an "amnesty" for Palestinian fighters in order for the zionist settler-colony to be able to focus on Hamas. The deal is that Palestinian fighters and liberation groups would surrender their weapons and abandon armed struggle, in exchange for not being targeted and chased. Unfortunatly, Al Fatah agreed, and its military wing gave up armed sturrgle (not entirly, some sub-groups within Al Fatah refused and continued thier operations). the Palestinian Islamic Jihad was offered this deal by the zionists, but it refused. So now, the main anti-imperialist players on the scene became Hamas and the PFLP (the Palestinian Islamic Jihad and the DFLP, who also refused abandoning armed struggle, to a lesser extent also).
this simply got to be a huge boost for not just the Palestinian left, but the world wide leftist movment!!

I saw Israel were letting a DFLP leader meet with the PA last week, despite officially blaming him for an attack on an Israeli school - it just goes to show they dont really give a fuck about whether your a 'terrorist' or not, they just want to back Abbas to the hilt as much as possible.

Does anyone know what level of support the Abbas regime has within the wider Palestinian population right now?

the one you are talking about is Nayef Hawatmeh, a maoist, founder of the DFLP.
it's not yet confirmed if he will be actually supporting Abbas or not, but he more likely will, unfortunatly.

lol, he doesn't have ANY support. Abbas, simply put, is a US-Zionist imperialist agent. why would a collaborater and a traitor get any support from his people?

I'm just surprised as to how the Fatah coup is still in power, or that theres been little uprising (reported at least) against it in the West Bank.

I did hear some pro-coup Palestinians talking about how the Israeli occupation ironically 'saved' them from Hamas in the west bank, I'd presume that has a lot to do with it.

This whole thing is a disaster for any unified stand against the occupation :(

From the offical website of the PFLP (in arabic, I couldn't find an English article about it. my translation):

A Massive Zionist Military Campaign in Nablus aimed at the PFLP

In the aftermath of the painful operations by the PFLP against the zionist occupation forces, the latest of which was the courages operation at the Huwra checkpoint, the Zionist Occupation Forces during the dawn of Friday July 20th, 2007, invaded the Ein Biet el Ma'a refugee camp western Nablus and launched massive shearching campaigns of tens of homes of members of the PFLP in which it fired live bullets and sound gernades in huge amounts through out the invasion.
The Zionist invasion failed to arrest any comrade from those wanted by the Zionsit forces, and instead arrested other innocent civlians. The enemy's radio station affirmed that the zionist invasion was targeting the PFLP fighters in Nablus and that this refugee camp is a PFLP stronghold, causing constant danger for the zionist occupation forces. In the same conext, the PFLP denied zionist claims that they were able to find storage rooms in Nablus owned by the PFLP containing explosives or substances used for creating any.
