Seriously how many of you did celebrate it. I'm not asking if you don't think that it really is a Christian festival or not. It may well have been adopted from pagans, that is not the issue. Easter is celebrating the Death (on Good Friday) then the resurrection (on Easter Sunday) of Jesus Christ. The eggs represent new life that is what Christ is offering.

LOL, thanks for reminding me that today is Easter.

What's Christian about eggs and bunnies? And if it's a Christian holiday, the anniversary of Jesus' crucifixion, how come it isn't on the same day every year, like other anniversaries?

Instead, Easter falls on the first Sunday after the full moon that occurs next after the vernal equinox. Why? 'Cause it's a pre-Christian spring festival. Easter was the name of a Celtic goddess. Why are all the Christians celebrating it, should be the question.

If you're an atheist, there's no reason to worry that your soul might be endangered by celebrating the holidays of false gods or something.

Whats meant by celebrate?

Did I go to church and beg to go to heaven, just in case there's a hell? No

Did I have a few days off? Yes, I get 22 paid days holidays a year and I'm not gonna miss out on two of them because some xian bastards think they own one of the oldest holidays in history, it could be roof tiling day for all I care.

No. Nothing christian. Though we did have a nice ham dinner.

I had to go to grandparents house on "Good Friday". I was reassured it was only a family congragation, it turned out to an egg ritual and was rideculed because of my beliefs.

Any form of alternative thinking is supressed. Freedom of speech and individuality are wrong these days.

Good Friday and Easter Sunday are declared Non-Trading days for business while May Day is usual. Isn't a genuine day for the workers struggle more important then that of celebration of a fictious character?

Although every member of my family are officially members of the Greek Orthodox church, none of us even go to church or do anything for Easter, except for my grandmother. My dad grew tired and sick of going to church for hours on end (we don't have a meagre 45-minute service) a long time ago.

I got drunk, tried to sleep, had a distrubing dream, puked, then woke up 4 hours later for an easter egg hunt and punishment.

Easter is about as Christian as Christmas.

All we do around Easter time is commemorate the 1916 Rising.

Got completely pissed off with ancient keyboard & mouse and went out and bought new ones...made in Thailand. :cheesy:

I endorse MJM's suggestion of "Roof Tiling Day"...those hard-working people do more genuine good for the human species in one month than all religions put together have done in the last 6,000 years!

PS: Years ago there was an underground newspaper in Detroit that hoaxed the daily mainstream paper there. On a mock-up of the Detroit Free Press front page was the headline: Easter Cancelled! Body of Christ Found! :cheesy:

I know Easter is orignially a pagan festival, the christians are really good at adopting festivals and putting their own stuff there because they know people need fun in the middle of winter and Easter works well with spring. I don't really do festivals like that, not my scene

My parents are christians, but luckily this year I pretended to be asleep so I didn't have to go to church. We jsut chilled out and ate Easter eggs.

So for most of you it is just an excuss to eat drink and be merry ;)
Each to their own.
I suppose the reason that it is not on the same day is that the Church was really organised until many years after the death, so they didn't record dates or days. Don't ask about Christmas, I don't know.
