In Melbourne (usually around the city and recently at my university) I have noticed the appearance of the LaRouchites... has anyone come across them here? I think the best thing to do is tease them.

Thoughts?

Was just wondering why no one has responded to this post? Seriously, why?

:P

Oh, I know of them. Anyway if you fancy a bit of fun, wind them up, otherwise ignore them. They are completely nuts and there is no point in trying to reason with them.

I really don't understand their whole cult thing, if their is anything to understand, but I dothink they are quite rediculous.

But are they considered fascists now? Why is this in the anti-fascim forum?

Journalist Chip Berlet wrote a book on them, referring to them as the "New Fascists" or something to that degree. It was an interesting look into their highly organized operation, but I was not convinced they were "fascist" at all. They seem more like a Keynesian-economics based social-democratic movement with conservative social policies.

I personally think LaRouche is right in his analysis of the IMF and how it's austerity policies loot the Third World (and to an increasing degree, the first world proletariat too).

From my understanding they are a fascist cult, seeking a society led by Lyndon LaRouche with a centralised state controlled by specialists who would rule on behalf of industrial capitalists. Their politics are hard right.

To quote myself from a thread in the CC on environmentalism (well, it was more then that...),

More particularly the Lyndon LaRouche (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lyndon+LaRouche) crew (see also Political_views_of_Lyndon_LaRouche (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Political_views_of_Lyndon_LaRouche)#Fascism). This fellow (and the "LaRouche Movement (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LaRouche+Movement)") have very strange ideas. And he is basically worshipped (is that the same as that RCP guy?) with much space given to his opinions everywhere. See the LaRouche movement#Criticism for example (second quotation).

Basically, their (the wierdo's I have linked to above) opinion on environmentalism reminds me sharply of a certain member mentioned in this thread. However, as I said, I haven't done the research to see how much it corresponds, so take my comments with a grain (or more) of salt.

LaRouche and co are basically scum. Fight them on the beaches...

*Edited* I also think they are scum, and feel that ignoring them simply because they are insane is not enough.

The LaRouchites

The LaRouchites are unquestioning followers of Lyndon LaRouche (it rhymes with "douche"), an American millionaire with a network of front-organisations and publishing houses. They are basically a bunch of cranks who promote a form of fascism around a cult of personality centering on (surprise, surprise) Lyndon LaRouche. What makes the LaRouchites different from other fascist groups is their willingness to dress their politics in seemingly populist causes, such as anti-war or anti-bank rhetoric.

The Citizens Electoral Council (CEC) are a front group for the LaRouchites in Australia. The aim of the CEC is to raise money for the LaRouchites. Before CEC was deregistered late in 2006 by the Australian Electoral Commission, they managed to raise several million dollars using this tactic. A five minute conversation with any of their members usually destroys the façade (if they don't bore you to death first).

Another front group for the LaRouchites is the Australian LaRouche Youth Movement (ALYM). The ALYM are people under 25 who have nothing better to than talk weird shit about "synarchism", why global warming is a "fabrication" . Sad, really.

Not all fascist groups are the same as the Nazi Party or have skinheads throwing silly salutes. Although racism and anti-semitism are features of the CEC and the LaRouchites, it would be a mistake to say that racism is central to their thinking, or even that they self-identify as fascist.

Basically the LaRouchites believe the world is controlled by a sinister conspiracy of evil-doers and their solution is a totalitarian state controlling all aspects of economic production… if only they could get the numbers.

A remarkable number of the conspirators in the LaRouche worldview turn out to be Jewish. According to the Australian branch of B'nai B'rith Anti-Defamation League:
"Lyndon LaRouche believes in an impending world crisis engineered by an alleged cabal of Jewish bankers based in Britain. He has established a worldwide movement dedicated to the advancement of this idea through the use of varied misinformation, fundraising, and political campaigns. LaRouche’s racist conspiracies have been adapted by the CEC with local targets including Aborigines, Jews, environmentalists and the Australian Government." (B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission Inc. THE LaROUCHE CULT: The Citizens Electoral Council, Briefing Paper No 2, 2001)

The CEC describes Aboriginal culture as "brutal" and comparable to the "ritual torture and cannibalism of the Aztecs".

The CEC believes that the Aborigines were not Australia's original people, thereby undermining their political and socio-economic claims. In addition, Aboriginal land rights, were allegedly "cooked up by Prince Philip and his World Wide Fund for Nature… on behalf of the international financial oligarchy which he heads, in order to stop economic development, to splinter nation-states, and to grab control of precious raw materials".

Hence, "Anyone who still babbles about 'land rights' or '50,000 years of Dreamtime', is… a witting stooge of the Queen's minerals cartel, led by Rio Tinto", and the Mabo case was a "fraud", the result of "decades of scheming by anthropologists and communists in the service of British intelligence, who wanted to split apart our nation".
(B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission Inc. THE LaROUCHE CULT: The Citizens Electoral Council, Briefing Paper No 2, 2001)

According to LaRouche, people bashing gay men to death can be seen as "revolutionaries" preventing the spread of AIDS:
"Since the idea of touching the person of the carrier is abhorrent, stones and the… approximation of a collection of baseball bats, come to mind. Certain individuals, of known haunts, first suggest themselves as easy targets." (Lyndon H. LaRouche, Jr., “Teenage Gangs’ Lynchings of Gays is Foreseen Soon,” New Solidarity, February 9, 1987, p. 8.)

LaRouche finds it easier promote fantasies of murder because apparently the idea of "accessible health-care" has bypassed them.

Be careful with these guys; they have one of the most advanced computer systems outside of the CIA and NSA, so I am told, and know how to use it.

They are not to be messed with.
