Every now and again I read something and it says 'French Commune' in it, I've tried researching this myself but just always find myself facing a list of french communes..
could somebody shed some light on the matter?

A french commune is really just a town/village, in France of course.

you probably find a list because in france, if i am not mistaken, they divide the land into communes. basically what we in america call cities or states, i think.

most texts probably refer to the communes at the time of the french revolution.

i'm just guessing. i'm probably ass-backwards in this, correct me if i am wrong.

But the talk may have referred to the Revolutionary Communes of Paris in 1793 and 1871
