I want to start a zine, but I don't know where to begin. Also, I don't want to have to pay alot of money. I'm up for minor charges, but i'm not a money tree either. I just need some tips on how to get started.

It's been awhile since I made a zine, but if you're just starting out and you have your own printer, you might want to consider doing your own printing on demand. It's pretty much easier for people to distro your stuff on their own if you give them permission. If you need lots of copies, try to find a locally owned printing/copy shop (i.e. NOT kinko's) and they'll usually quote you lower than the big boys. Maybe I've only become lazier, but I find blogs so much more hassle free.

Comrade,

In my humble opinion, a better question to ask would be "Why should I create a zine?"

Publication and Spreading of Revolution, I guess. A blog would be alot easier, though. I just want to bring Revolution to the public, the people who are victimized by Capitalism and need to be saved. If there is any better way, I'd also like to know that. Any way to spread word of Rebellion, i'm willing to participate.

In my experience few people read zines, and those that do so because they're into them specifically.

There are some revolutionary publications out there. Get involved in their production, contribute to them, help distribute them.

Hell, even creating a blog to comment on certain cultural issues or something similar from a leftist viewpoint would probably be more productive than creating a zine.

And of course, it doesn't matter how great your publication is, if you're not out in the trenches, fighting for revolution, organizing, talking to your fellow workers, etc., it won't do a world of good.

i agree. i wrote two issues to my zine, reviewed bands, gigs, books etc. didn't do very well as i wasn't organised enough. if you're keen on it, go for it. i would probably recommend on commenting on current issues and providing general information on activism. also print yourself. then you won't waste time fiddling with sides. and start to distro among comrades or publish over the internet. just keep your target audience in mind. i actually had to do a business report and a mock business for business studies. and i used my zines for it, and learnt alot.
