In the capitalist society everyone has a want for more and more money as the world creates more ways in which one has to spend money to satisfy the wants and "needs" that are thrown at us.
To get this greedy money, people have to work more. They will sometimes go into work very early, and leave very late, to increase their pay packet. Some people are actual workaholics, and may not enjoy their work, but have nothing else to do with their time and are stressed when they cannot work.
People risk their health when they work too long. Long hours put strain on our bodies and often people may suffer heart attacks and ulcers from stress.
It is mostly white-collar workers who are over-working. People who work in offices are trying to find and spend more time on paperwork, accountancy and insurance etc. The main benefitter of all the exuberant amounts of work is the Employer. He gets more work done from him as people strain themselves to do so. His profits increase four-fold, while the workers increases only two-fold.
People who over-work leave themselves with little time for leisure and family, important values in society. Workers spend so much more time worrying and working rather than enjoying themselves and spending times with others. They have to please their bosses, not their friends. They have to please their wallet, not themselves. They neglect the important issues of our world and society for money, and therefore work.

life is for enjoying, not working yourself to death. with a properly planned and well managed society, people wouldn't have to work so hard. resources wouldn't need to be wasted on advertising or middle men. everyone would basically have what they want with much less effort. utopian? no. just good planning.

Yes, a planned economy would mean that are needs are created, but we would have no further desire and need to work for materialistic things, to say that we are better than out neighbour with a larger salary and a better car. More time for living life.

Well, my experience tells me a totally different story. You don't have to be a white-collar wage-slave just because you're educated.

My choices are basically working 9 hour days at a shitty manual labour job, or spend a few hours of day shuffling papers and writing down my oppinions on things, leaving a lot of time and money for other exploits than work.

I want to work as little as I can for the basic things and spend my time doing other stuff. The best way to do that is to have a high salary per hour, and the best way to get that is through education...

If you enjoy your work, then why not spend time doing it? Most important I think though is chosing a PRODUCTIVE career...Hard work should neither be feared or unrewarded. I see little wrong in working for a cause you totally believe in, then again I am thinking this isn't what was being discussed.

People are overly greedy and spend to much time working for money to spend on matierialistic goods, whilst neglecting more important aspects of life. White collar and blue collar workers both spend too much time at jobs which leaves them with little time to spend their money or enjoy themselves, I have seen it for myself.

I thought I did, I was just mentioning there is nothing wrong with very hard work...it just depends on the reasons for doing it...Yet I agree with you about society and the problems created.

I'm thinking along the lines of KRAZYKILA in that if you do choose to stay in a capitalistic society, one should stay in school long enough to get a decent hourly wage so one can have time to not "work work work"--- and have a semblence of a real life. The trick is to not get greedy as a result of the $$$ola one now has at their disposal. It's watching too much TV and buying into the materialistic mindset that causes the trouble.

Education---if you can get it--- opens more doors. Plus, if you pick a non-retarded school, you might just learn something valuable in the process. Just be careful what choices you make after graduation...

working in a job that sells,sells,sellss, it relinquish your true value as a employee or person. fuck coporate america. they will sell a $200 television and pay you 8.50 an hour. think(if they sell 10 of these t.v.'s it's 2 grand and you make 68 dollars in an eight hour shift, so produce value is higher than human value especially if you can't afford the t.v. but sell 10 for you're employer. what i'm getting at is we don't help societies wealth but the rich fat coporate dickheads who don't work just collect and never give give back to our falling society. thanks g.w. junior, money makes the world feel cold

imo, we should open more theoratical schools.. not practical ones-- the only thing these educations learn us is something we can learn in the corporate world(by experience) as well.

furthermore i would want to see more language education-- it's the most vital instrument to erase most boundaries, imo.

I totally agree. We can all share "ideas" when we have a translator--- but to actually think in another language---that is when you really start to connect.
