So I pretty much encouraged many of my co workers to watch SiCKO and surprisingly all of them did. and today at work 5 of us were having a conversation that I WOULD NEVER THOUGHT could come out of these guys.

POLITICS!

obviously they are a bit backward. these movie made them aware that this system is fucked up and that its wrong for human well being. Some started asking more questions and got more encouraged to learn. some were just pissed. ME being the only socialist person in the room noticed somethings. things that we need to address to help people SEE THE BIG PICTURE and how all the problems, discrepancies, injustices and disadvantages tie TO ONE BIG PROBLEM. Capitalism

Though this movie got all us all talking and wondering what we need to do and how to change things. Most of them still believe that answers lie in the new candidates for U.S. Presidents. <_<
and some just have that idealistic mentality. "thats just how things are going to be" and "it will never change"

I resist and hold back. I don't want to go off and try to tell them about socialism and communism just yet. RIGHT now they are taking baby steps. but I would like to them to get more interested in the BIG PICTURE. with out scaring them away or overwhelming them.

what would be the best way?

Just keep talking to them, and, most importantly, relate socialism and communism to their daily lives. Ask them ,"How would you feel if you controlled your workplace?" "How would you feel if you made the decisions on how much was going to be produced and at what time you got out of work?" "How would you decide, if you got together in a neighborhood committee, at what time the garbage truck would come around?"

"What would you study if education was completely free even up until college?"

Things like that, those are things that get their minds moving.

this is fantastic. if there is one thing the movie did well, it was open the doors for new ideas. i'm glad to hear your co-workers are opening their eyes. just keep the new ideas coming, but explain them in subtle ways. talk to them about the nationalization of various utilities like electricity and water, and college as well. They are already comfortable with the idea of socialized medicine, and so they will be more receptive to ideas like socialized utilities.

good luck, comrade!

yeah. so far so good. the work place is buzzing. But at the same time lots of people feel this won't change. or that we aren't capable of changing this.

simply show them ways that things have changed. Talk to them about how way back in the day the idea of a socialized school system seemed crazy, and that a Union was just out of the question. but both of those things are around today.

i think they would learn best through example.

I just returned from seeing Sicko. I don't see how Moore could spend so much time showing the horrors of "managed care" and then whoop it up for Clinton's managed care scheme with several added layers of bureaucracy. Other than that, it's a brilliant movie and he's trying to catch the political wave in behalf of a serious plan.
