Well, I haven't seen all these movies, but I'll comment on the ones I have seen.

6. North Country (Charlize Theron)
An excellent movie based on a real story. I particularly liked how it explored the economics of sexism. An economic depression due to Reagan's free trade policies causes unemployment in Minnesota's iron mines. The male iron workers get angry at the employed women for "taking male jobs", rather than the capitalists for causing the unemployment in the first place.

15. The Shawshak Redemption (Morgan Freeman)

A very good movie, among the best. It's just an amazing film. Andy helping out the warden's corrupt money making schemes is pretty similar to how the real system works. The warden finally getting his due is priceless. It also shows problem with the American justice system. Red (Morgan Freeman's character) made a dumb mistake when he was young, clearly regrets it, and pays the rest of his life with it.

I suppose that the films portrayal of prison rape could be interpreted as homophobic, as far as I remember, at the scene where Red tells Andy about "the sisters", he makes it quite clear that the men in question were not homosexuals, just sadistic rapists. The quote is below, from the screenplay. (http://www.imsdb.com/scripts/Shawshank-Redemption,-The.html)

RED: Word gets around. The Sisters have taken a real shine to you, yes they have. Especially Bogs.

ANDY: Tell me something. Would it help if I explained to them I'm not homosexual?

RED: Neither are they. You have to be human first. They don't qualify.

Edit: Found the screenplay quote.

When you said classic I thought you meant... really old. I was all ready to talk about Boris Karloff as Frankenstein's monster, and Nosferatu... Oh well...
