I read somewhere that the way Lenin and his wife learned English was by studying the bible in prison.

They had an English copy of the bible and a Russian copy of the same edition and figured out how it worked.

Apparently when they went to London, they spoke in a manner that was very entertaining.

Yeah lol apparently. In Robert Service's biography of Lenin which, despite Intelligitimate's ignorance, is a fantastic book and worth reading - as it develops on Lenin the man as much as, if not more than, his politics. it portrays him in a very positive light and he comes across as quite a kind, fun bloke really. Anyway enough about the that, in the book there is a copy of his letter of application for a membership to the British Museum in which his English is a bit funny - it's quite sweet really, in a Lenin sort of way. :D

EDIT- P.S. thanks for the links Rosa :)

I'm sorry about the double post. I thought comrades may be interested in these:

1. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yaUnli8SAA8...related&search= (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yaUnli8SAA8&mode=related&search=)

This is Trotsky making a speech on the Red Army. The sound is a bit scratchy and there's a constant buzzing but it is a translates speech, and a very good one at that.

2. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8rXPnjL9Cp0

The sound is pretty bad on this one but it is still a brilliant speech.

Lenin! in colour and out of sync. Good but he wasn't as good an orator as Trotsky, though Lenin never pretended to be - he was pretty modest really.

This one particularly interested me. It is the Left Opposition protest against Stalin, the numbers of workers that turned out particularly pleased me, and hopefully really fucked off Stalin. Although, obviously they were opposed to others as well as Stalin; There was Tomsky and Rykov making their pitch alongside the fat git.

Comrade Trotsky making his pitch to be scrutinised in the fashion section of OK! magazine  The hat looks cool on him though. Lol! He even does the catwalk walk towards the end!

Trotsky was, in my opinion, one of the greatest orators of all time - perhaps even the best. I would also like to bring to your attention the fantastic Bolshevik Revolutionaries videos that 'Revolution4ever' has been putting on youtube. I am personally glad we have a comrade out there putting these videos, which are very good, up and making them available to everyone.

Thanks for that Lux.

I have a copy of that book, but refrained from reading it because of Service's politics -- but your recommendation tells me I should!!

So I will. :)

awwwwww, I feel so valued lol! Yeah it's best to look past his political views and just at the picture of Lenin the book gives. I certainly felt it was sympathetic to him, and didn't appear as biased as I thought it would. I would certainly recommend it if you're interested as Lenin as a person.
