"Just in case Echelon is listening in, here's a little scenario I dreamt up to deprive Dubya of some sleep.
Behind the scenes, Sadam has been engaged in some interesting little negotiations with Iran involving Land for War. (everything else from here on in depends on that rather flaky hypothesis).
- A few hours US finally gets round to declaring war on Iraq and sends in the missiles, Iran gives them a 24-hour (48 at the most) ultimatum. Stop it or we shall be forced to intervene.
- Climb down? No way.
- The Iranian president does a Neville Chamberlain ("I must tell you that this country is now at war with...")
- US forces in the gulf turn into sitting ducks for an entirely unmonitored and uninspected Iranian army. Massive early casualties.
- Emboldened by early success, Iran manages to pull in (or buy) support from a large number of Afghanistani warlords and remnants of the Taliban movement. The US is looking at a full-scale war on two fronts.
- In view of the US's recent cavalier attitude, NATO washes its hands of the business.
- British government collapses and after fresh elections, Blair is forced into a coalition with the LibDems, under the condition that he withdraw from the war.
- Spain tows its one aircraft carrier 100 miles off the Galician coast and sinks it. With it goes the Aznar administration and the US's last partner.
- Pro-Taliban and anti-American forces in Pakistan overthrow the government. The Mother of all (Nuclear) Axes is born.
CHAPTER 2
- The war drags on and on, draining the US economy and military Pro-American governments in the Middle East are toppled. China takes advantage of US weakness to invade Taiwan.
- In the Worst Possible Scenario for US interests, Bush is re-elected in 2004, largely because massive support for an Ralph Nader's uncompromisingly anti-war platform splits the anti-Dubya camp right down the middle.
- The war drags on and on, draining the US economy and military even further. With massive anti-war protests and an increasingly authoritarian and paranoid administration, domestic cracks begin to emerge. A new attempt at Southern secession is unsuccessful, but debilitates.
- At a special ceremony in Geneva, the US is officially divested of its Super-Power status and downgraded to "Former Super Power which still needs to be listened to". The US is granted special status at G6+2 meetings.
Bin Laden. Who is he?

 enjoy the scenarios!
