I've just received another email from the Starbucks Union recounting yet another tale of humiliation, discrimination and harassment on the job. I'll link to the union's page about this but I'll try and give a brief summary here.

A worker at Starbucks, Simone Gordon, has gotten her hours reduced to 5 a week and is now homeless because she ran afoul of her manager. They claim that she's somehow got it out for white people because she wears her hair in an afro now and again, and they don't like the way she talks! The manager has been spreading these rumors about her all around the mall where this Starbucks is located in an attempt to make her quit altogether. But this campaign of harassment and lies has had the opposite effect: she's refused to be intimidated and has now joined the Starbucks Union!

This woman is obviously strong but now she needs our help. Since you're on the computer right now anyway, you can write an email to Starbucks telling them to lay off Simone and give her enough hours so she doesn't have to live on the street! These emails aren't nothing either. When Starbucks was trying to fire a Barista for being pregnant a few months ago, our show of solidarity helped her keep her job. Thank you, and together we win!

Fight for Simone Gordon! (http://www.starbucksunion.org/node/1791%5d)

I just sent them an email comrade. I attached this message:

This is a violation of worker's rights. You are a disgrace, the contempt with which you treat those that work for your money is disgusting. I don't know how you sleep at night.

Hope this helps, Lux :)

Shit. I thought that was illegal!

Best of luck to you all.

Starbucks is so fucking dodgy. Is there any fliers for this? I could do a bit of international solidarity at my local store.

Though I know there used to be more available on the Union's website, but all I could find right now is something related to the from Bean to Cup campaign, and even this doesn't seem to be working properly at the moment. But here's the link anyway:Link (http://www.starbucksunion.org/action/materials/image/posters)

I'll check out the IWW website to see if they have any of the old flyers that I used in the past. I'll be back in a jiffy!

And thank you so much to all of you who've written to the pigs thus far! Solidarity is important.

EDIT: Ok, not much luck. But here's (http://www.iww.org/en/graphicslibrary) the IWW image gallery. But the Starbuck's Union has a forum specifically for international supporters. (http://www.starbucksunion.org/forum/9).
Thanks for your interest!

I'm sort of bumping this back up to the top because it would appear that we haven't prevailed yet in reinstating Ms. Gordon to her former position. Please write an email (http://www.starbucksunion.org/node/1793) and help force Starbucks to cave on this.

Howard Schultz, the chairman of Starbucks, around whom a quasi-personality cult has been formed, is a paternalistic, Israel supporting, billionaire, son of a *****. Once his slaves, whom he desparagingly has referred to as "partners," started organizing, poor, hurt, little Schultzie said: "If they had faith in me and my motives, they wouldn't need a union." Awwwwww, did....did we hurt your feelings? Let's take this egotistical fuck down another peg by adding yet another victory for the Starbucks Union!

Just in case you don't already hate this self-absorbed complete douche bag, here's a photo of him:

Ugly little prick isn't he?

Alright, it's been a while and I was starting to worry, but it would apear that we've succeeded in getting Simone Gordon reinstated, with all her hours back. I recieved this from the SWU and I'm posting it up here for all of you who sent emails in this campaingn. Thank you all so much.

Finally, a thanks to all of you that pitched in on the e-mail action
for Simone
Gordon, the Starbucks barista who was discriminated against on the
basis of
race. You'll be happy to learn that since Simone started fighting back
with the
Starbucks Workers Union, the company has reinstated her work hours
which had
been drastically reduced and the abusive manager is no longer at the
store.
These are positive steps but the company still has not made Simone
whole for her
losses and thus the legal and grassroots efforts in her case continue.
