YOU ARE INVITED to the U.S. Social Forum in Atlanta: 6/27 – 7/1!

Thousands of folks from around the country – and some from around the world – are coming to Atlanta to learn from each other's experiences, share their analysis of the problems our communities face, and work together to develop the consciousness, vision, and strategy needed to realize another world. This is a tremendous opportunity for all of us to get into the thick of things and to wrangle with the questions of how to change the world. Atlanta Revolution Books will be there, and, on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, there will be some incredible revolutionary workshops. Check these out, and learn first-hand from the revolutionaries you have read or read about in Revolution newspaper:

Revolutionary Journalism – Truth in a Time of Lies and Censorship
• Thursday June 28, 10:30am – 12:30pm
• Progressive Sunshine Classroom at Trinity United Methodist Church, 265 Washington St. across from State Capitol downtown. 3 blocks from GA State MARTA Station, 5 blocks from Garnett St. MARTA Station.
• Presented by Michael Slate and Luciente Zamora

What role does revolutionary or radical journalism play in the world today? Michael Slate, who hosts a weekly drive time radio show on KPFK 90.7 FM in Los Angeles “Beneath the Surface” and Luciente Zamora, a writer for Revolution newspaper, will bring out their perspectives on raising the overall political consciousness for social change – including what is the root cause of the problem and the need for a revolutionary communist alternative. These reporters have gone to listen and learn from the stories of the women and men who are forced to live under the most oppressive conditions throughout the world and whose struggles inspire and bring great hope to people; they bring a unique revolutionary communist perspective to journalism. The session will dig into the world the way it is and how it should be and could be. It will link this to why people need to be constantly searching for the truth. What is the role of class consciousness in changing the world? How does a newspaper see uncovering and revealing the true nature of this imperialist system? All who attend will be encouraged to become part of the network of correspondents, photographers, and distributors of Revolution.

Mao: Then and Now—Revolutionary Ideas and Changing the World
• Friday June 29, 1:00pm – 3:00pm
• Triangle classroom at Inman Park United Methodist Church, 1015 Edgewood Ave. in Little 5 Points, across from Inman Park MARTA Station.
• Presented by Maoist political economist Raymond Lotta and others from Set the Record Straight

This panel by Set the Record Straight (see www.thisiscommunism.org) aims to stimulate serious examination of a pivotal episode in human history, the Chinese Revolution, especially the Cultural Revolution, in which a liberating society was being created. It will discuss the influence this revolution had on radicalizing people, especially youth, in other parts of the world -- and the lessons for today. The panel will also discuss experiences in taking the communist vision of a world without classes to young people in 2007. Panelists will speak to the challenge of taking on the distortions and misrepresentations about the "first wave" of socialist revolutions in the Soviet Union (1917-1956) and China (1949-1976). The message that "socialism was a nightmare and failure" promoted through the media, highly publicized memoirs, and mainstream academic studies acts as a heavy weight on people’s willingness to consider alternatives to capitalism. An honest conversation is needed.

Revolutionary Answer to Divisions Among the Oppressed
• Saturday June 30, 1:00pm – 3:00pm
• Room #9 at Trinity United Methodist Church, 265 Washington St. across from State Capitol downtown, 3 blocks from GA State MARTA Station, 5 blocks from Garnett St. MARTA Station.
• Presented by Travis Morales and Carl Dix, a national spokesperson for the RCP USA
The proletariat is an international class. It is highly socialized and more connected than it has ever been – yet the ruling class works overtime to keep the masses of proletarians from seeing their common interest and their mission as a class. They create desperate conditions in the communities and force the masses to compete against each other for jobs and survival. They spew out racist ideas that lie about people’s cultures. They try and conceal what proletarians from different nationalities have in common and the real strength that exists in their differences. Potentially they are the grave diggers of capitalism – but this potential is concealed, both from society at large and even from the multinational proletariat itself.
Historical and continuing national oppression and sharp conditions of inequality, along with constant ideological barrage of white supremacy, have given rise to real national divisions within the US proletariat. Combating this is a crucial part of the revolutionary struggle. Travis Morales and Carl Dix will discuss revolutionary strategies in overcoming these divisions. How does the multinational proletariat build the struggle against national oppression and bring forward emancipators of humanity?

Indeed, both do speak. Good observation.

However-- what they say is very different. If you are so inclined as to mention something about it, I'd encourage you to study them both and find out why that is.
