This is a phrase that really irks me, probably because I live in a trailer and (Gasp) a trailer park.

You've all heard the stereotypes, and you all know the kind of people usually slapped with the label.

Am I right in feeling pissed that intellectually lazy people tie me in with a certain group, and assume the people in this group are somehow "Bad" because they are usually poor and working class?

Do you use the term?

In general, what are your thoughts on it?

stereotyping and discriminating is misinformed and as you suggested an intellectually lazy way to assign a negative profile to a person ......

if this concerns trailer park residents or catholics, jews or africans it is equally foolish ....

however you will find that stereotyping and discrimination are tactics that are used by both right and left wing adherents, although some are more aware of it then others.

i don't recall a time when i used the term to describe an individual i've assigned the term to certain things (such as a shooting car or flypaper) .... but i wouldn't consider it one of my arguemenative skills ....

I don't use it. When I think someone acts uncivilized, I'll tell them in that exact wording, I don't feel the need to apply some sort of slur to them, as it would just unfairly characterize a whole group.

But then again, those lazy southern Dutch sometimes... <_< (just kidding)

Its obviously a classist slur. It suggests that a demographic group, defined by class, race, geography and lifestyle, (poor suburban whites living in or around trailer parks) are inferior to others.

having said that, getting too hung up on words rather than material conditions is a liberal tactic to avoid real change and divert people's energy into areas where they can't be politically productive.
