"I may be free of Angola, but Angola will never be free of me."
Robert King Wilkerson of the Angola 3 to speak in Toronto!
Robert King Wilkerson, one of the political prisoners known as the Angola 3, was released from the Louisiana State Penitentiary in 2001, after spending 32 years in prison (29 of them in solitary confinement) for a murder he did not commit. The Angola 3 were involved with one of the only prison chapters of the Black Panther Party. Anti-Racist Action (ARA) Toronto, United Black Students @ Ryerson, and the Angola 3 Support Committee present a screening of the Angola 3 documentary Three Black Panthers and the Last Slave Plantation, followed by a lecture from Robert King Wilkerson himself. Not to be missed! It's all going down on Friday, July 20th at 6:00PM at the Student Centre – 55 Gould Street (between Church and Yonge) at Ryerson. Admission is $3 (or $5 with a bag of Freelines candy made by Robert King).
The next day, Saturday, July 21st there will be an all-ages benefit show for the Angola 3, featuring Toronto's best revolutionary hip-hop artists. Robert King Wilkerson will speak on the case of the Angola 3. The show will be held at Ryerson's Ram in the Rye bar (on the patio), located at 63 Gould Street (enter off Church). Doors open at 7:30PM, party keeps going on until midnight. Bring ID to drink. Admission is $5 (or $7 with a bag of Freelines).
All proceeds go to support the work of the Angola 3 Support Committee to free our two remaining brothers – revolutionary heroes Herman Wallace and Albert Woodfox!
For more information or advance tickets, please contact Anti-Racist Action at [email protected] or United Black Students @ Ryerson by phone at (416) 979-5000 ext. 2419.
