"Small Sardinian island to host G8 summit in 2009

ROME (Reuters) - Italy will hold the 2009 Group of Eight summit of rich nations
at a small Sardinian island accessible only by boat, the government said on Thursday. The 2009 summit will be held in Maddalena, home of a U.S. nuclear
submarine base which is due to close in 2008.

Italy last hosted the G8 in 2001 in Genoa, which was one of the most violent in
the history of the summits. One demonstrator was shot and killed in a clash with police and dozens of others were injured in a separate incident when police stormed a high school housing protesters.

Earlier on Thursday, a senior Italian policeman said police had "butchered"
protesters at the 2001 summit and called for a parliamentary inquiry."

Only accesable by boat...did anyone see the green peace get run over by a police boat in Germany?

There will be riots, yet again no doubt

For future reference, the G8 summit locations are repeatedly cycled with the next summit in each country being every 8 years. This was scrambled in bit in the past with the entrance of new countries. And it's safe to assume that these summits will continue to be held in obscurer places in each country.

Breaking news: Several left-wing organisations, led by the anarchist organisation Class War, have decided to take steps to ensure that effective protests can take place at the G8 summit in 2009. The biggest measure adopted by these organisations, is the inclusion of revolutionary armbands in their official merchandise.

The armbands themselves, are available in red or black, cost £2.29, and for a nominal extra fee, you can have a symbol attached to them.

A spokesman for the newly set up group Communist and Anarchist Revolutionaries with Political Armbands for Swimming (CARPAS) -- thought to be a SWP/RESPECT front group -- stated that "this is a massive step forward, and the kind of cross tendency unity that we all dream of. This truly is the start of something special."

However, Jim McJim, a member of the RCP USA -- who have put their support behind the surfboard option -- commented that "CARPAS is damaging the movement by not stating the facts. For example, do you know that 32.7% of armbands fail after 6.32 years of use? But have CARPAS told you this? Of course not!"

Unfortunately, McJim's statement was cut short when he sharted -- that's when you fart and a bit of shit comes out.

But, rest assured, given that the RCP campaign seems to be gaining support, there'll be plenty more on this issue in the days to comes. As one observer, who asked for his name not to be recorded due to security concerns, noted, "the fireworks have just become -- and they sure are bright."

That they are Donald P. Donald, that they are.

On a more serious note, this does show that the anti-G8 mobilisations have had a significant impact on the ruling class.

As you wish. You can be my Rear Admiral.

AS: Crap, this punkie-hippie individual terrorist doesn't have any effect! :P But seriously, in that sense, it's good news. Goes to show that there is a movement out there and they don't want to bother with it anymore. So, will anyone else happen to be wind-surfing in Sardinia in the summer of 2009 ;)

which would have been impossible to resist.
It may be more difficult for Westerners to get there but there has been strong support and attendance for anti-globalization protests in these East Asian countries in the past.

I take it as good news. The globalization movement realizes that the anti-globalization movement is on the offensive again after six years of recuperation (in the medical sense not the situationist one).

TATs in time warp. Perhaps it's the drugs.

One time I forgot what decad I was in! I swore it was the 1920's!

In the future they will have g8 summits on actual mountain summits. Protesters will be forced to...umm...use hot air ballons and yell obscenities.

Actually, fuck the spectacle, create our own spectacle. Basically, by following the scum around, we are playing by their rules. While they own the game board, we can create our own rules.

I believe that next year (2008, in Japan...) the majority of the protests are being scheduled for Tokyo. The inaccessibility of the place where the G8 is going to be held, along with very high domestic transport costs have apparently both lead to this decision. Of course, the inability of protests to actually stop the G8 (we don't have aeroplanes now do we...) probably has something to do with it.

I fully support such moves, bringing the protests back to the cities.

This was attempted and was partially successful this year. "Plan B" was an RTS that was going to split up into roving autonomous groups on the Friday night, in Berlin. Unfortunatly, it was corralled before anything happened (and before I could get there...), though I hear that there was a lot more "vandalism" reported then normal ...

Of course, this sort of action is opposed by all those who support capital and the state, those who want to have a nice media picture (as if the media will ever portray us well...). But I say, fuck them. If you want a demonstration that is supported by the police, well fuck off!

Anyway, yes, Italy. I don't I'll make it to that one, but I hope there are massive protests in Rome (perhaps someone could invade the Vatican, or use it as a place for asylum?), Milan, Naples and other places.

Revolution. The way forward.

This is actually one of the best posts in this thread, people have been flamed for enrolling to vote to change the future and people are already planning two years ahead to still be the way it is.
