Would the abolition of money be a good or bad thing? I am honestly not too sure myself and would like to hear other peoples opinions and theories.

Money is the root of all evil (weel, nearly all). However, as Marx proved, money is neccessary for exchange. Therefore, money can only be abolished when the practise of exchange of goods is abolished. There is no need for money in a society based on the principle of 'from each according to his abilities, to each according to his needs'

"There is no need for money in a society based on the principle of 'from each according to his abilities, to each according to his needs'"

uh, unless that person is next door there is.

Money is not bad, its just how people use it. It has become the thing everybody worships. All we have to do is somehow make everybody despise money, and it wont go away, it will just be a nessasary evil.

we're entering a time in which society is slowly opening up to the concept of a cashless society. credit cards, debit cards, automatics deposits/withdrawls. physical currency is archaic, and through these new societies it'll be easier to open people up to the concept of no currency - period.

There is still curency, it may not be paper and metal, but it is still there. It exists inside the computers, the electronic stuff. It is still money, and people still strive for it.

The thing is, people are so 'addicted' to money and the ways of making it, it will be hard to convince many people to give up the use of money. It is probably comparable to a drug addiction, once you have it, you want more and more of it. Convincing people to give up this system based on money and exchanging of goods will take a very long time.

You dont abolish money, just the obsessive need for it... even harder to do.

Abolishment of money could only be a good thing but I don’t think that will happen for a while.

Just imagine a world where people work for the common good of others, not for profit. There would be no need for money. Utopia? I think so.

But Utopia is what we work for! And we will fail over and over again.... but we will continue to try!

Yes, Utopia is what we should work towards. BUT my dream of a "perfect world" where no one works for profit but for the common good of the people, where there is no money, no poverty, no racism, no sexism, no class division, no law etc. seems nothing more than a child’s dream. It will never happen (excuse my pessimism)

But Utopia is what we work for!

Word. I [like you] am shamelessly idealistic.
