Would communism work in Britain? If there was eventually a Communist Revolution in Britain, the new government would face many problems. The first problem is the continuing growth of the right-wing movement in Britain (the BNP): how would this problem be solved? secondly, Britain is extremely dependent on America, since they are one of the main suppliers of food and other vital resources into Britain, and they would be far from happy about a left-wing movement taking control of one of their allies, and would probably impose some kind of trade embargo, or may even lead to military intervention. Thirdly, a lot of British people love the monarchy, and would be extremely upset if something happened to them. for example, the siezure of their wealth to be distributed to more needy causes. Does anyone have any solutions or suggestions on solving these potential problems?

I dont have your answers, but personally, I think that democratic communism would ONLY work in great britain. Other counties might be able to do it, but the people of the UK have alot more sense and reasoning than that of the USA, and alot more intelligence in these sort of matters!

until the British working class is liberated from its countrys own imperialism, it won't get anywhere.
the British working class and the British nation as a whole has never been revolutionary. reform has always been the way ahead.
i'm not Communist but i'd say that Britain could not go Communist until it loses its exploiting benefits from the third world. when the third world countries take back there own lands and factories, the imperialist countries economies will collapse.

No, it would not. Current conditions here are appaling. No type of change is likely, let alone a communist revolution.
If you look logically at the situation here, even with all the Iraq madness, NHS crisis, firefighter strike and University fee's, Blair will remain in power. Who else is there to vote for. Leftist parties here are so unorganised it's ridiculous. I wouldn't dream of voting any of our leftist parties because of how pathetically organised they are. Ive read "The Socialist" and "Morning Star" everyday for a while now and leftists are getting too anti-everything and forgetting to be pro-their own ideals. Whatever they may be. So who do we vote for? Lib Dems? No way, we know they wont win. Even if you wanted to vote Tory you wouldnt be able to bring yourself to vote for that pathetic man they call their leader.
Only 51% of the electorate turned out in the last election (2001). Pathetic. No change can happen if 49% of the electorate sit at home on election day. Who said on this thread that the British people were more intelligent when it comes to matters like this? 51%!!! I know you can work it our for yourself, but just to point it out, that means only around 25% of the electorate actually voted for the governing party. That's all.
I ask how change is possible when the British public are so disenchanted with the political arena.
Our elitist government will not change. Not for many years yet. The media fills the public's ,omds with bingo, jingo and tits rather than anything political. There's possibility of a massive war, there's university fee's becoming ridicuolous, there's firefighters on strike....yet who is on the frontpage of our country's best selling newspaper?...David Beckham! Now I love the guy, but....well, i dont need to explain the problem there do I. Ok, maybe you then think that the real important news will be on the next page and that footballing god is only on the front to attract buyers....turn the page....what's there.....A TOPLESS GIRL! Nikkala, 23 from London! Again, delightful, but what's that say for us all???
Again, I give you my opinion. In the current climate, despite all of New Labour's wrong doings, there will be no new government for years. And no dramatic new government for more than the forseeable future (sorry if i mispelt forseeable).
Elitist it may be, but our governers are clever. The Italian power theorists Pareta and Mosca highlighted two types of leaders, the "lion" and the "fox". The Lion charasmatic and fierce with military. The fox clever, cunning and manipulative. There are many foxes in our government. Combined, they are way too clever to let anything dramatic change at the moment.
I think you gather my answer is no....communism will not and cannot happen here on this island.

Communism cant happen in one country, but a revolution in the UK is as possible as anywhere else.
Also, the so called 'rise of fascism' (the BNP) is nowhere near as bad as it used to be, the liberal lefties like to act like the next haulicausts about to break out but its nothing like that at all.

Yes and no. Ultimately only if the balance of international class forces produced victorious resistence
to Capital in the major powers and and at least neutralised resistance elsewhere.
The struggle against fascism is needed but it is not as great a threat as it could be if Fascism is to be defined as mass counter revolution. We aint seen nothing yet.
Counter revolution can have victories but has a tendecy to disappear up its own arse, as it cannot sustain its inhuman ideology, in a world in the midst of a communication revolution.
