Today I had a chance to listen to a political debate about the role of leftists in the new millenium.

It was very interesting but a few things made me think.

The conclution was that today the term commie is totaly obsolete. It died whith the cold war and represents an easy way of putting a name on organizations, goverments and individuals that think for themselves and don't take orders from the only superpower left in the world. They use the "communist threat" as a way of satanizing those that go for other alternatives to capitalism. They use the word communism to put fear in the hearts of people. They have had some success in this thanks to all the negative propaganda mainly old black and white films about how bad It was to live under stalin. But yet they remain silent about the huge advances that many nonNato nations have had whith marxism or any kind of revolution. Why is that?Because they FEAR the development of the third world.
Why do small nations such as Belgium have better living conditions than countrys like Algeria which is much richer?Development!Any kind of real development be It by socialist reform or other means are a THREAT to the developed world.Any kind of inviroment that can create real indepandence by promoting education, tecnology and work can transforme in comercial competition in a matter of years.Do you think european and american companys are happy about Japan?Of course they're not but they coulnd't stop the japanese mentality of working until your hands bleed. But they were in many cases succesfull in ending revolutions ,simply by killing the leader.
Today marxism and other revolutionary ideals are very much alive but to call people that believe work whit those theory communists in the old sence of the trem is very uneducated. One of the reasons is that today's revolutions come from the heart of the people whitout the suport of the USSR like in the past.Today socialist country's like Cuba or China are evolving into diferent systems or loosing influence in world events but still have a lot to teach underdeveloped nations. So in the capitalist world what is the real threat of revolution? The answer is simple, the development of their economic possesions the thir world. So to fight capitalism It's not about communism are stalinism is just about giving oportunity to your country's people. The west trys to show us that they ended any real threat to criminal capitalism but in the present people have a new vision of a unified international community that works for justice. As long as people question the reasons for poverty ,disease and hunger the revolution will never die.

That in a way corresponds with a discussion Larissa and I had dealing with Homeless people (which can be used to represent the poor countries).

Put that into a social sense and you have the Rich vs the Poor. And we will never give up, and until the last Leftists hand coldly grips the red flag the revolution will always live!

Yes, that's the reason the USA has not lifted the embargo on Cuba. If they did, the one major flaw of Cuba right now poverty, would start to fade away, thus causing the world's citizens to realize that communism/socialism can work. That just scares the US government shitless.

I agree 100%, it scares the U.S to death to see Third World countries developing. That's why shit's going to hit the fan in Latin America if leftist programs are put into action and actual representative governments are put in place. Also explains why there've been so few interventions in Africa (note the exception of Angola).
