Some would argue that it is possible, if communists so eagerly want to live in a socialist or communist society to create their own mini-societies for those who want to.

Buy some property, build houses, and a common "corporation" for those who live there, and perhaps even more "radically", buy a corporation and make it communal.

What are your thoughts in regards to this?
What would be possible arguments against it?

There is no argument against that. If you have the money and capital to buy land this is possible.

This has been done before and it is being done now.

I think that, on some level, it assumes that pro-capitalist types have more of a right to inflict their views/economics on the general population than a communist does. Kind of like when someone says "country X has pretty good healthcare" and some dumbass nationalist replies "why don't you go live there then"

If you did it though, it would be hard to recreate the society you want to live in, you would still have to rely on others to get medical care and things like that. (unless you also build a Hospital, a factory and a power station)

It's also important to note that constructing an ideal society as an example would require some kind of exact plan which could pose additional difficulties and obstacles - I have always felt that the exact new forms of economic and political organisation that will emerge under Socialism cannot be predicted in advance, but will instead be constructed in accordance with the requirements of each particular revolution situation, or possibly simply through active experimentation. All previous attempts to build society according to an idealised blueprint - such as Fourier's Phalanaxes - have not been successful because of an absence of revolutionary spontaneity.

I agree with this. I think one of the most pressing problems that one would face if one tried to build socialism in one country or any small area would be economic resources - it would be very difficult to access all the various raw materials and consumer goods that are required to ensure a high standard of living.

It's unsustainable and thus cannot be enacted on a large scale. It accomplishes nothing for our cause and is more of an attempt at evading capitalism than actually confronting it. Furthermore, such communes cannot be completely separate from the capitalist economy unless it is 100% self-sufficient, something which is extremely hard to accomplish for one country much less a small collective, so it must trade and establish relations with outside capitalist sources.
