For my A2 history course I need to do my own personal investigation... I'm supposed to think about what I want to do tonight and here's a list of what i've got so far... If anybody wants to comment on them or suggest something please do.
Paris Commune
Anarchist revolution in Ukraine
British General Strike
Spanish Civil War/ Franco
Cuban Revolution
Italian Social Republic
Bolshevik Revolution
English Civil War

The secret to any good historical study is in how available are primary and secondary sources, can you write a relatively lengthy piece of work on it and will you be able to reach any good historical conclusions. It also helps if you speak the language the sources are written in.
So on that basis the British General Strike would probably be best.

Yes, exactly, do something new, something that deserves more attention. Britain General Strike would be a great subject, considering the fact that you might contribute with some new info, opinions, etc.
In example, I will be the first one at my University, or any other same-language speaking university for that matter - with my diplomic disertation - to write about Kronstadt rebellion... ever.

Yeah IMO you shouldn't take a too controversial topic. The thing is they'll trash your "investigation" in a second if you start taking a too radical marxist approach to the subject. The Britain General Strike sounds fine enough.
Personally I wrote about the independence struggle of Algeria for my A level history assignment. I didn't go too radical or anything, but the teacher still told me I hadn't explained the situation properly from the "French perspective", and therefore didn't give me the "top" grade.
I should've left out that Frantz Fanon quote at the end I think... :D

the ISR is a bit of a odd one out there :P but still interesting for historical references.

haha yeah
We need the rise of fascism as part of our AS course and I found really interesting... I thought the ISR might be quite good to look at because we can't examine an area we've already studied and I thought continuing the theme of fascist italy would be interesting...
I talked to my teacher today and I'm gonna do the British General Strike, so at the moment I'm ploughing through a few books on it and the economic and social situations at the time. After that I'm gonna have to chose my question.

Do something that you dont know shit about. Some kid chess player in some X-Files episode once said that the only way to get better at something is to do something that you can beat(or in this relation what you already know about).
British General Strike is interesting. If you have any subscription databases on your school Im sure its easy to find primary sources.

haha, I always thought my teacher was a bit of a Thatcherite tory but then I saw her at a public meeting where Tony Benn was speaking on Iraq so I wasn't so sure...
