View Full Version : Let's talk about my favorite music

Led Zeppelin

Alright, currently my favorite bands are: Dire Straits, Soundgarden, Led Zeppelin, Pearl Jam, Red Hot Chili Peppers.

I mostly listen to songs by Dire Straits at the moment, they rule. Thanks to Lux for introducing me to them.

Best songs by Dire Straits? Money for Nothing, Sultans of Swing, So Far Away, Brothers in Arms, News, Lady Writer.

Hmm.....Achilles Last Stand by Led Zep is a definite favorite, can't get enough of the guitar solo on that one. Have a Cigar by Pink Floyd, the solo at the ending is delicious.

Soundgarden's Superunknown album has some great songs. RHCP is mostly Soul To Squeeze, Roadtripping, Scar Tissue, Californication, and checking out stuff from their new album.

Ok, now discuss my favorite music.

Superunknown is a pretty mint album. I like the sorta slow trippy ones like fresh tendrils and Fell on Black Days.
That said, I also love kickstand. That album reminds me of when I was 14 and did a paper round.

Why do you feel you're entitled to your own thread about your own tastes in music?

Thats quite an eclectic mix from the rock spectrum you have there.

Have you considered listening to the bands that influenced the bands you have listed? You know listened to some funk, rock 'n' roll, punk, metal, etc?

Personally I like a lot of stuff.

It would be hard to pin down everything, but I guess I like most stuff, there are very few if any genres of music totally unrepresented. I am not a big fan of speed/thrash metal. I like metal, but that doesn't really appeal. The only full genre I have absolutely no time for is RnB, which does utterly nothing for me. I guess I could list five bands. But it would be horribly unrepresentative.

But here goes, not necessarily my favorites (that depends on my mood), more based on how representative they are of the majority of my music, but all in my top 10 most played: -

Massive attack, Iron Maiden, sigur ros, sage francis and wire.

Dire Straits? I dispair.

Dire Straits are brilliant - but I'm bound to say that because I introduced Howly to them, and I need to avoid embarrassment if the anti-Straits abuse is about to start. Loads of people hate them for some reason, I dunno why - maybe some people think they're boring - but those that like them like them, and I guess that's what matters. Despair is spelt with an e btw lol - and so I wont take real offence at that :P .

Hmm, yeah, I like some metal, rock 'n' roll and punk, but not the same extent as just "rock". I particularly like grunge.

Dude, I dreamt about sigur ros last night, I have no idea why, but I remembered reading your post before I went to bed, and I dreamt of them being this awesome band who I love....and I haven't even heard a song by them yet.

Can you recommend any albums/songs by them?

I've listened to them both. Don't like Doors much, Thin Lizzy is good.

And Sir Aunty Christ, your taste in music sucks.

Sigur Rós are a post-rock band from iceland and they make some of the weirder music around, largely because they do weird stuff like use Cello bows on guitars, using a shit load of effects and having a singer who uses falsetto constantly. I think they are one of those bands most people have to give several listens to. They also are something of a heavy leap into the deep end of the alternative circuit for most people.

Personally my two favourite albums are Takk and Agaetis Byrjun and my favourite songs from these albums are: -

KK harpadi - Agaetis Byrjun
Star Alfur - Agaetis Byrjun
Gerdur - Agaetis Byrjun
Glósóli - Takk (probably my personal favourite song by the band)
Hoppípolla - Takk
Saeglopur - Takk
Meo Blódnasir - Takk
