Ok, I bought volume I while ago and now that I've got summer vacation I may have enough time to read this fat fuck of a book (well, over 1000 pages not including intro, and all the prefaces of the different editions, etc.). I may have the time but I've got to tell you, I need some motivation to plow through this. This is no Communist Manifesto! When I read that, I reacted to it as if I were hearing it on mainstream TV; it was very inspiring. But after reading Das Kapital for a few days I feel like killing myself!

After he's done talking about commodities and all the different kinds of value, does the book get better? I don't really understand what Marx has been talking about so far, which pisses me off cuz if you're into communism this is the book you've got to read. I've got Camus' 'The Plague' right in front of me and I'm soo tempted to read it cuz Das Kapital is just proving too difficult. What should I do?

Have you perhaps read more introductory economics works such as Wage Labor and Capital? and We had a study group on Capital but it kind of died out though there may be various study groups on other sites. Check the Study Groups subforum.

My gf bought me a copy of Kapital at a used book fair a while back and I still haven't gotten around to reading it. Will I ever? That's a good question. If you really want to, I also suggest tackling some easier stuff first so you don't get absolutely confused.

But remember, you don't need to know the specifics behind economics to be a revolutionary.

The Plague is a great book, personally I would go with that.
