I'm not to sure about this issue but reading some of Lenin http://www.marxists.org/archive/lenin/work...20/lwc/ch06.htm (http://www.marxists.org/archive/lenin/works/1920/lwc/ch06.htm)
He makes the point that revolutionaries could and should work within them.
I'd like to get an opinion of a few members on this open to correction or whatever here .
Well it all depends, from what I remember Leninism creates more of a single union, the state union. All workers must be part of that union. This is where Stalinism and Fascism really share some common themes (National Unions were the law in Fascist Italy and Nazi Germany).
In Anarcho-Syndicalism (Syndicate comes from French and means 'union') uses the unions as a grouping factor within the stateless region. Ie the unions are used to unite the people and make sure voices across the country are heard and exchanged.
I personally, once a true anarchist/communism state is created don't see the need for the unions any more. The unions in the US are to protect the workers, though today many do not (ehem... mine) and are run by the rich and make deals to line their own pockets (ehem... very much mine). Once a worker's state is created, what is the purpose for unions? Who are they protecting us from? Unless it is an A-S society, they don't seem to hold much usefulness...
