Alright, I know sending letters, or an email in this case, is sort of a lame way to "get active" but I recently got an email from the Starbucks Union which told a story which is pretty repugnant. They're looking to shit can a pregnant, mother of one, for having morning sickness and having to miss a few days work since the Bucks doesnt do maternity leave. Follow the link to get the whole story and to send an email to the bosses at the Bucks:

I know nobody here is impressed by Starbucks' oh, so heartfelt devotion to "corporate responsibility" and this new development should make the absurdity of corporate responsibility all the more glaring. These pigs are vicious, money-grubbing, exploitative tyrants through and through, and just because the Bucks calls its wage slaves partners and pays lip service to fair trade coffee doesnt change who they are in the least.

Things like this are absolutely sickening, it pains me to think that people can do such a thing to another being. They shall be receiving an email from me.

Just an update on this one, friends. It appears that all of your letters and solidarity from around the world allowed our fellow worker to keep her job. This is the power of union, comrades. Without the IWW Starbucks Workers Union, the FW would have had no power. But by working together, her job was saved.

Sure, it's one small thing in a world full of abuses. But for her, it was incredibly important. You could be next.

(shitty sectarian plug: www.iww.org and join up!)

This is the kind of bullshit that makes me want to throw a brick through a Starbucks window and beat the shit out of the managers.
