View Full Version : Earth's Magnetic Field

As you maybe aware electrical induction is caused by the use of magnets and many of our current electrical devices rely on the earth's magnetic field. The earth's magnetic field has changed over a certain period of time but not when civilization was so reliant on electricity. This subject gains little media coverage, my question is if the magnetic field flips or disappears is this a problem for humanity and if the field disappears (as it is beginning to get weaker) are we susceptible to radioactive storms? Also this flip is said to be overdue.

Yet the duration of this excursion or flip wouldn't create strong enough induction currents to severly damage such electrical systems. However, it's quite possible that certain systems would be affected somehow.

The drifting of the poles prior to an actual flip could cause problems in terms of the cosmic and solar radiation that we'll be faced with.

Also, keep in mind that such reversals have occured before without any significant correlation to paleontological events.
