the BBC just published a story about a hammerhead shark being born with no father DNA. BBC (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/6681793.stm)

apparently, this process can also be exhibeted by bony fish.
but can parthenogenesis occur in human beings as well? could that explain the virgin mary? (though personally i think she was raped by a roman soldier)

Not naturally.

No, it's only recently that artificial human parthenogenesis was deemed possible and if it occurs in humans, the offspring will all be female since the process requires the duplication of a single sex chromosome.
