3. you could never marry Jeff Buckley/ (insert name of someone popular here) because he is dead

Finch's Letters to you; The Smiths' Back to the Old House; The last track on (ok shut up before smartass comments) MCR's 1st album; AFI's The Great Disappointment; Rise Against's Paper Wings; From First to Last's Emily.
That should have you running a bath with a razor and writing a letter.

The Rest of my Life always tuggs the old heart-strings even though I was never that keen on them.
I wouldn't say the whole album. Maybe "Blood to Bleed" would have been a better choice, but "Paper Wings" is a better song. Most of the albums political though.
And Neutrino, what about Johnny Cash's version?

It's a very good, emotional version. The song speaks of rueful retrospection, and the old, burned-out voice of Johnny Cash indeed captures this sentiment well. I'm not sure which I like more, I'm really not.

Never heard the NIN version, but with the man in black, I'm in the same boat as Xav.
It's just that bit where he covers the table in wine.

Love the One You’re With
by Stephen Stills
If you’re down and confused, and you don’t remember who you’re talkin’ to. Concentration slip away, ‘cause your baby is so far away.
Well there’s a rose in the fisted glove and the eagle flies with the dove, and if you can’t be with the one you love, honey, love the one you’re with,
Don’t be angry, don’t be sad, and don’t sit cryin’ over good times you’ve had. There’s a girl right next to you, and she’s just waitin’ for something to do.
And there’s a rose in the fisted glove and the eagle flies with the dove, and if you can’t be with the one you love, honey, love the one you’re with,
Turn your heartache right into joy, she’s a girl, and you’re a boy. Well get it together, make it real nice,
You ain’t gonna need anymore advice.
And there’s a rose in the fisted glove and the eagle flies with the dove, and if you can’t be with the one you love, honey, love the one you’re with,

Disclaimer: After I got dumped I googled break up songs and got most of these. The one's with the asterisk were/are particularly therapeutic. For the record, the playist I made with these sogs I only listened to like once. I'm so over it now. But the Ben Harper song still makes me kinda sad. Ok enjoy! Oh and about a week after the break up I was gonna send him the lyrics to dammit by Blink 182 but didn't get around to it. Now I feel the lyrics to song for the dumped are more appropriate  But seriously though.

I can't believe how much the first post spoke to me, I feel more engaged with it than anything I have come across on this, or anyother message board.
I have given up on beating myself up and generally avoid these songs because they are too painful to hear unless I want to spend hourse beating myself up and moping, please feel free to rip the piss, the are special for certain reasons (not always music):
Radiohead: Just, lucky, gagging order
Imogen Heap: Hide and Seek :(
Satch: Can't remember but is on strange beutiful music
Actually this list is getting me down already, any song that talks about love/relationships/girls/happiness really got me down :( I don't get the whole listening to sad songs thing...
I suppose hallelujiah os a tune that can help.
